Or just a simple system like in StarCraft: press space and the map centers on the last unit to transmit a message. Units on the minimap do blink red (I think, haven't touched the demo in a little while) when they're engaged with enemies, which is a s...  [Read More]

Your idea of a HUD queue for idle units is a neat one, though I think that would probably only be useful if your "modes" or "objectives" were implemented--I wouldn't want a unit to pop up an indicator that it had completed all its...  [Read More]

He didn't mean change the name of the class of ships, he meant change the name of a single ship. In other words, to use a quick example, he wants to have the Nebulon-B frigate Monitor, not rename all "Nebulon-B frigates" to be "Monitor...  [Read More]

You can't save your game in the demo, and the game doesn't remember your progress. You have to play it through in one try. You quit in the middle and it forgot that you had completed the space battle....  [Read More]

Taking down shields makes ship vulnerable quickly...but when going against Star Destroyers or other Imperial cruisers, I make the hangars a high priority so I don't have waves and waves of TIEs scrambling to take down my bombers....  [Read More]

(which begs the question, why not release it sooner?) What, release it including the bugs from the demo? I think you have to keep in mind that the mods are hacking an old version of the game engine, and probably aren't indicative of the real game (i...  [Read More]

Sure the demo doesn't show us everything--it's not supposed to. It's at least given me enough of a taste of the game to confirm that I'll really enjoy doing grand strategy and small-scale tactics in this game. It's like Force Commander plus Rebellion...  [Read More]

There is no army in existence that mines resources and builds itself a factory or barracks on the battlefield. They go into battle with the forces they have, and come out again at the end with whatever's left. At most, they put up some tents for fiel...  [Read More]
In all fairness, all the Homeworld MAPS were basically 2D, with only minor z-axis variations...so tactics ended up being very 2D anyways. I think Petroglyph's take on space combat streamlines things while preserving an element of 3D variation....  [Read More]
I'm immensely happier with camera controls since I discovered them all...too bad they're not mentioned in the tutorial or even the ReadMe! Mouse3-panning is great for getting a different perspective on the strategic situation (though this really shou...  [Read More]

I love replaying the space battle in the demo...despite the fact that I can't really give all my ships orders and then settle back into cinematic mode, it's really fun to watch the battle from a cinematic perspective. The sheer number of laser blasts...  [Read More]

In my opinion, the simplified interface doesn't make the actual game any less strategically complex; it just elimenates the most tedious bits. Interesting that you bring up Total Annihilation, swaaye. It had just about the simplest interface in exist...  [Read More]

Thinking about Homeworld some made me realize something else. In HW2, players were given information on which ships were strong against which other ships, and then if you grouped many diverse units into a "strike group" and ordered them to...  [Read More]

Now that the game has gone gold, are you Petroglyph guys still interested in feedback from the demo and/or the early days of the full game, possibly to incorporate into major or minor patches, expansions, et cetera? I liked the demo a great deal and...  [Read More]

Woahohoah. This thing is made of pure delicious. I don't get why people are complaining that the demo is too short, obviously the full game will be much longer... I like how smooth and simple the interface feels--even though there's a lot you can do...  [Read More]

It's a bit...well, plain. You could add a bit more architectural detail (in the form of brushes) where you now have plain or tiled textures, just to make the flat surfaces a bit more varied and 3D. At the very least, split some of those huge flat exp...  [Read More]
