Abandonware does not, in any LEGAL sense, exist. It's a made up concept for gamers to feel better about themselves when they pirate. Hey! The game's been ABANDONED! It doesn't count, right?? Well, legally, yes it does. Practically, maybe it doesn't...  [Read More]

I liked SWBF1's approach to planetary bonuses. It made it worthwhile to attack one planet vs. the other. I also liked that it took two rounds to actually capture a planet. It'd be nice to also be able to blockade planets that you didn't want to captu...  [Read More]
Actually, you can take a pretty good amount of punishment in this game. Certainly way more than anyone in the movies. When people get shot in the films, one hit and they're down. In the game, aside from headshots, it can take upwards of 5 hits to kil...  [Read More]

My hunch? They'll be just as bad. At this point, I firmly believe LucasArts really doesn't care about creating quality games and supporting them well. Since about 1999 the quality of their games has steadily gone downhill and their support for them h...  [Read More]

I had no idea you could even zoom with the guns. I still think the beam one is pretty pointless, and the slow laser one sucks. The machinegun is probably the only useful one. Eh, space combat seems a little overly hyperactive to me anyway....  [Read More]

The beam turret seems to be the most useless to me. It'd be perfect vs. enemy capital ships, but hitting three times on an enemy fighter? Good luck. That thing will be long gone if it's being flown by a human pilot. the "machine gun" turre...  [Read More]

I managed to shoot down a fighter once with the machine-gun-like turret. Aside from that, they seem pretty much useless, especially the heavy beam turrets that shoot the single death-star-like beam. Those things do basically nothing. Plus, the range...  [Read More]

There was a great one that added a bunch of content and replaced other stuff for BFI. Actually got me playing it again. I'm hoping something like it comes out for BFII. I can't stand the spamminess and quake style guns....  [Read More]

I do find the game enjoyable as a bot-killing exercise (haven't tried it online yet), but I have to say that the strength of weapons and general spamminess of the game royally suck. Personally, I hate having to blast some cheap robot five times in th...  [Read More]

I doubt the game engine is set up to let you do that particularly well. I think the game you're lookin' for is X-Wing Alliance. Would that LucasArts could make games like that again instead of the stuff they've put out over the past 7 years......  [Read More]

At least vs. the AI, I don't find the fighters to be much of a threat. I can regularly fly around in a bomber and not die once in the round as long as I'm reasonably cautious....  [Read More]

Another good way to do this is play a space map as the republic. Land in the enemy hangar and stick around the med droid. Pick off individual pilot droids. Piece of cake. The precision pistol is actually very nice, but it seems pretty tough to get i...  [Read More]

Oh, I recognize that this is a pure economic consideration. That's kind of the problem in the industry, though. People are interested in making popular console games and porting them to PC rather than making good PC games. At least that's how LucasAr...  [Read More]

Either the speed should be lowered or the size of the maps increased. But as it is, you can really haul ass on most maps. I think you could slow the pace and leave the sprint speed what it is now, to keep things interesting. I don't mind that CPs ta...  [Read More]

The Good: - The addition of space battles is cool. It's not a space sim like the old X-wing games, but it's still fun. The ships seem reasonably balanced and different enough to allow for alternate tactics. - Some of the ground maps are cooler. I...  [Read More]

Don't forget, you can also lob bombs from afar. You don't have to get in close to do it. Once you get the hang of the bomb's trajectory, you can basically kill them on a single pass or perhaps two. I always use the V-Wing or any of the bombers and...  [Read More]

Played the game from July '03 to April '04 and it sucks. SOE is a horrible game company and they totally butchered any feeling of Star Wars. The game is essentially EverQuest in space with Star Wars graphics and sounds. It has basically nothing to...  [Read More]
I don't think it'll be much better than any other system, just different. Swordplay involves a LOT of nuances that just don't translate into video games. To me at least, sword fighting of any kind is alternatingly slow and blindingly fast. A good fig...  [Read More]
As has been stated, if you want a major overhaul of gameplay, look elsewhere. This is much more of a refinement of JK2. I bought the game when it was around the $30 mark and it never really satisfied me, but that's after JK2 had left a really sour...  [Read More]
Ok, a few thoughts on this whole debate/controversy. My recollection of the Sabreist Code was that it came out of two mindsets and was equally adopted by the two different mindsets. On the one hand, some folks felt that it was a good thing to show r...  [Read More]

Boy am I glad to hear that. :) This has been one of my major concerns about JA. I think that, after JO, server admins will hopefully be a bit more savvy about implementing variables like the sabre damage one, which could make the game a LOT more fun....  [Read More]
Well, I consider myself a "hardcore purist" for Star Wars, I guess because I just prefer things to either have the tone of the films, the prequels, or the sequel books that Zahn wrote. I still think you can work with those concepts in futur...  [Read More]
After hearing about the Vong here and doing some research on Starwars.com, I came to the same conclusion as Prime. They just don't fit my idea of what Star Wars is. You can slap the trademark on the cover, but that doesn't mean it's true to the origi...  [Read More]
Yes, but it'd be ideal if we didn't automatically FAIL a mission because event X happend. I absolutely hate missions like that. Now, I can sort of understand it if it's like, Lando or Jan dying (though even then, there are workarounds for this in des...  [Read More]
