TL here, I'm sorry for holding this project back from you guys for such a long period of time.

This is what I was working on before travelling. I am now in Spain and I plan to return back home earlier than expected - around July 9th or so.

Wedge are you still doing Derelict? It looks like these CTF maps are taking up your time mostly, are you going to chuck in Thunder for the NRG ctf pack instead? What's up? :]

Now, it is finally time, behold.

Looks lighter ingame and when I get back I still have to work on the (draw) bridge area.

If the screenshots above seem to dark you can refer to an older bit of work here (http://www.nrgteam.com/images_previews/images_ffa_medieval/shot0046.jpg).

So? :]

Love those lamps, and the architecture is wonderfully gothic and imposing, loads of favourite thing in a map, atmosphere :)

If Raven had hired you, we would get twice as good maps for JA. Breathtaking artwork. I truly wonder how you can do that kind of work so fast.

Technically the NRG site itself isn't down, only the domain is.

I'll get around to responding to some of your comments/questions shortly and perhaps add a few extra images if I have the time.

That looks heaps good, even if it is a little dark.
For the stuff around the lanters he could have had orange fox around it, that would give that kind of effect (i think).

Excellent work as always. But...

1- Is the drawbridge a bottleneck?

2- Is the final map going to be floating in space?

I reckon that looks like something from Unreal Tourny, which is a good thing, keep up the good work.

Ok, I'll let you guys in on a secret - this area I'm currently developing is merely the guardpost, the outsides of the main map if you will - you won't be crossing the bridge, so it's not really considered a bottleneck.

Wedge: It might be alittle floating-ish, we'll see, I'd rather hope not. Stupid engine.

Omikron: Familiar name... I hope it looks something of my style rather than from a game, it's my aim to remain original. :]

Patrick: The lanterns are 3d models which you can easily tell, the flares or glows which come with them are as easily placed as would any other sprite texture (for flames, electric bolts, some people use FX's for them nowadays but in larger maps it can be quite fps consuming, for flares it's just downright silly to try use a FX).

Edit: It seems that my name has a red glow and I never ordered that from the shop, also my points are gone. Bloody system. :-(

There's a new entity key for lights when you compile with newer versions of q3map2. I think this comes with versions 2.5.3 and newer: flare_radius. Just give it a key/value pair of flare_radius/1 and do a q3map2 compile... here (http://www.shadowspawn.net/temp/tc_lights.jpg) is a shot of how it looks. Ignore the visible portal barriers, they aren't a part of this effect.

The flare is a texture. Yes I plan to fix the beams, it's something which I have not found time to edit yet.

I'm glad this map reminds you all of something, although it wasn't my intention to. This map is merely created in my mind and roughly sketched onto paper.

I can't promise any of you screenshots in the near future, I'm now working on a Q3 map and I am flying to England on the 11th of August. Although, having said that, I will try to get one more update up before I leave. ; )

SWEET MOTHER OF VENUS! Holy crap that is awesome, that map is simple pefection in the name of jk2, forget raven I'm putting you incharge of mapping!

Two suggestions to improve this map:

1. Yes I agree with wedge2211 either the Mordor theme or the Uruk-Hai theme would be perfect for this map.

2. I'm not sure whats being done in this area but this is just incase nothing is being done. Underneath the castle in those big pillars leading into the lava, it'd be cool to have stairs going down into some nice duel size dungeon rooms. Then if you keep going down, right at the bottom, the pillars open up letting lava come in except for an octaganal platform where you can duel in the middle of the lava, thatd be fun!

Music? No. For the map pack we use certain music which is shared in other maps to reduce filesize. We probably will release two versions though, one without music and one pack for music. So if that's the case, then maybe. I'll definetly look into those songs as I've not heard them before, except for the mordor theme - I think I know what you're talking about.

I have considered adding sub-levels to this tower area. Honestly, I don't know if it's feasable on the FPS, although with JA coming around the corner and a planned release for it perhaps I'll be able to create them. We'll see.
