It's a good idea to put together a starter's guide. Just a few things... Bonadan: Also a rebel money-maker, Bonadan has a high income, (135) and enough build slotts, so make good use of it. Is "Bonadan" a planet? I haven't seen it. Empi...  [Read More]

Now that's funny! You use exactly the opposite strategy I use. I guess there's more than one way to skin a cat, as they say! :) It also takes a lack of conscience - easy when playing the side of the Empire. Commander of disabled ship: "Sir, if...  [Read More]

I've found that bringing Vader and Boba helps Good idea. I don't believe the ion cannon can target small ships, just as the hypervelocity gun cannot....  [Read More]

Perhaps try to get a range advantage so you won't have to get near the planet. Broadside Cruisers. Maybe even nothing but Broadside Cruisers. They can sit as far from the planet as possible, and they do decently well against fighters and bombers, as...  [Read More]

Wedge is right. Those icons on the right side of your screen are all active modifiers for the battle you're in. They include unit upgrades that you already have and environmental effects that are currently present....  [Read More]

Wow, those strats are really useful and should help me alot in my new empire campaign! Thanks. Since I wrote that, though, I've realized that I value shield generators more than turbolaser towers, so I edited my post to reflect that. Turbolaser tower...  [Read More]

Actually you only need to defend planets within jump range from an enemy (or pirate) planet. If the planet is surrounded by "uncharted" planets (i.e., they have the grid pattern), or if the planet's behind my front lines, then I only leave...  [Read More]

After completing both campaigns, I like the Empire better in space and the Rebellion better on the ground. The Empire gets bigger ships earlier, and I like playing with big ships. Although the Rebellion has the best big ship of all, in the campaign...  [Read More]

The number of each ship type depends on the level of Space station. A Rebel level-4 space station, for instance, garrisons 1 Nebulon-B, 2 Corellion Corvettes, 4 X-Wing squadrons and 2 Y-Wing squadrons. And yeah it'll keep spawning them indefinitely....  [Read More]

True, but the former would make it nothing but a backdrop in a space battle - like the Death Star - and the latter would make other ships so small I'd have trouble clicking on them. At 1920x1200, I already have trouble selecting corvettes. To see th...  [Read More]

Re: the SSD model... OK, I just watched RotJ again tonight, and the the Super Star Destroyer is HUGE. Larger than what I remembered before. It dwarfs an ISD the way an ISD dwarfs a Lambda transport shuttle. So on a current space map the SSD would st...  [Read More]

Don't the XML files call image/model/config files for all types of unit/structure/hero/etc.? I was looking through them and it looked like a lot of this stuff was there. I'll have to look again...maybe I'm wrong. (Even if it is, I'm not saying it wo...  [Read More]

So basically this comes down to "tweaking up" the entities in the Star Trek universe to make it comparable to the one of Star Wars in order to have any semblence of game balance. Right? Sounds like it's going to take some straight out fudgi...  [Read More]

If you think ST is based on the laws of Science, your definatly wrong. As I said, it's science fiction based on real science. Energy generation by matter/anti-matter collision; impulse drives - which are either fusion or ion drives - the latter of wh...  [Read More]

Could Data really take on a thousand Stormtroopers? He wouldn't have to, as he'd generally find ways to avoid having to face a thousand of them. Super smart + super sneaky + super fast = not ever having to face a massed enemy. Seems like the best st...  [Read More]

Transporters have always been portrayed as safer than driving a car is for us today. In the history of Star Trek, there's been one transporter accident that I'm aware of. There have likely been others, but even so, in ST people are transporting with...  [Read More]

Star Trek has its own equivalent of the Death Star: the Genesis device. They could just fly up to Coruscant or Yavin IV with it in a cloaked Bird of Prey. The planet's occupants wouldn't know anything about it until...they'd been transformed into bas...  [Read More]
