And you can cleave in the editor too. You'll just have to get a little further into the tutorials to figure out which button cleaves....  [Read More]

Okay--time for some important rules of brush based editing for people knowledgeable of JK. Okay--Hollow command is generally evil. It's in all the tutorials because its a simple way of making a room, but it causes problems with generating excess bru...  [Read More]

Red--Yeah you can make a plugin. I'm not sure how difficult that is but I don't think its all that bad. Radiant in one form or another will be what is used to edit JK2. Whether the editor is an official one or one maintained by the community seems...  [Read More]

Sorry to sound like I didn't mean you weren't into levels. I knew from the info you posted before that you knew what you were talking about. Quake 3 engine is currently the most powerful engine available to edit. The tools for the Quake engines are...  [Read More]

It's really too early to ask them those sorts of questions. They are busy building the game. From my experience Radiant is a fun and powerful level editor. Anybody who is really into level editing won't feel its a waste of time to learn to edit the Q...  [Read More]

I doubt they would go so far as to try to remove the ability to edit it. From what I understand--LEC got the guy who made the WDFuse editor for Dark Forces (which was a very unfriendly to edit game) to make a system that would be easy to reverse engi...  [Read More]

Radiant was open sourced and GTK Radiant is a community maintained version of the editor. It has some bug fixes and some of the tools work slightly better. It's definitly what you need to use for Team Arena editing. For simple basic Q3 it shouldn't m...  [Read More]

gamedesign.net has some great resources. I reccomend especially looking at Quake 2 tutorial sites. Since it was basically just lower poly, most of the methods are going to apply and there was a wealth of information on Q2 editing--even more so than w...  [Read More]

Okay, I'm not familiar with that one, but it probably means you have some complex areas that couldn't be divided properly by the compiler. Look for overlapping brushes, that sort of thing....  [Read More]

Most of the JK DM levels were all built in under a day--that's almost an afterthought on top of the game. Playtesting is important to make a good level--but you generally have a good idea as to what works once you have made some levels and played so...  [Read More]

Well the final level of Q3 was created in about 47 minutes apparently. I'm sure it took a couple days to compile but the actual construction isn't that time consuming....  [Read More]

They haven't said anything about it in any previous game. I'm sure they won't stop you from making levels as long as they don't have copyrighted material or otherwise questionable stuff. A couple of years ago, back when I was still running Hyperview...  [Read More]

The P4 is much faster if the software is compiled for the P4's architecture. In regular old non-optimized applications Athlons of much lower clock speed are faster. But since Windows XP is supposed to be optimized for the P4 its going to be interesti...  [Read More]

Guys, go look at some screenshots from Alice, Heavy Metal: FAKK2, and the upcoming Soldier of Fortune, Medal of Honor, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The game can handle large outdoor areas just fine. The reason Q3 is all in small cramped levels...  [Read More]

In order to do large complex levels you have to use up a lot of RAM since the level files end up being huge. By having smaller complex levels that connect well (like in Elite Force or Half-Life) you get the illusion of a larger area to explore withou...  [Read More]

Okay--when JK was released there was basically no other 3d FPS games yet. Quakeworld was the competition. JK allowed larger outdoor environments and had support for 3d acceleration out of the box. Quake 2 was released a few months later and it defini...  [Read More]
Sifl--all magazine promotional shots and stuff for print adds use the higher resolution models. They don't want it to look so game-y. It's pretty standard. By standard I mean that pretty much every company does it. It's funny that you mentioned JK,...  [Read More]
There is a clear connection between how pretty a game is and how well it sells. Myst and Riven are still up on the top of the most sold PC games and all they are is a bunch of pretty pre-rendered screens tied together. It's not a heavily modified Q3...  [Read More]

No--much older game. SW with vector graphics was a big success--you can still find it in some arcades. So they followed it up with a Jedi one a few years later. It never seemed to me like it was as much fun and I rarely ever saw it. I think it was...  [Read More]
