Really, how did you? Did your parents tell you or did you find out first from school. Did TV show you?What about movies, radio, books, friends, and the such. Is it appropriate for these ideas to be shown widespread to the public through Television? What is the best way for the youth to find out about sex?
You just pick up things as you go along I guess.....I think it's better kids being exposed to it all because I have seen 7 year olds looking at porn magazines and being turned on by them so don't say **** like that's to young.....

Seriously though, you just pick up on it as you grow. It's not some sooper sekrit or anything. It's an integral part of life. You'd have to be a retard not to pick up on it. Now, the finer things, like technique and such, those maybe someone could remember where they found out about them. But sex itself? Who can remember the first time they learned about driving a car? Or the first time they learned about a television? These things just happen, it's not one specific event that you find out about.
And to ask if it's appropiate for ideas of sex to be widespread to the public through the TV? Are you serious? Dude, there are three things that you body tells you to do: Eat, Find shelter, and Screw. It's not some government secret being kept from the "public".

The public includes the wee ones too Munik. I mean c'mon, a kid turns on the tv and starts watching all these screwed up programs. Is that really appropriate? I know this is delving into censorship, but TV is dirty.
Wouldn't it be better for a kid to find out about the "birds and the bee's" from his parents, or for him to turn on HBO, when his parents go out for dinner?
I think that someone should put into context what the child sees. If a child views some porn with 4 midgets pissing on a woman while she fellates a goat, well, that should be explained. But in general, sex itself should not be kept from children in my belief.
In general, sex should be explained by the parents. As is all things like that, parents should be the ones to instruct their children in the ways of the world. Not the television.

Actually, I think it's On-The-Job training... you never really stop learning about sex. I was probably 12 when it occurred to me what the basic process was, though. I'm sure it was a porn mag or something equally nefarious. ;)

What would the HBO be? Anyways it can hardly be a problem for the kids to find out. They will, all by themselves. And PLEASE, I saw through the "Birds and Bees" bull at about age three (basically because it's a biological impossibility (think about it :D)), as does, I'm sure, any reasonably bright kid.
The parents, the school... there are many ways to learn such things... Ad hoc being the way it has always been, but that in iteself is hardly an argument for any particular place. Personally I think that "Porn on TV screwed up my kid!" is a poor excuse. Unless sex is a taboo subject in the family (in which case the only 'knowledge' about it will come from immature, boasting friends and the TV set), the kid will be able to put what he sees into context, and divine that that is hardly how it's done in the real world. After all, when somebody says "D&D/Violent movies/Violent PC games screwed up my kid!" then we pretty unanimosly point and laugh. Why would sex be any different?
Books. my mom is a nurse and i found/find myself reading her books alot. also the news. i was 5 when i learned all of it.
I think I was exposed to sex early in life from older kids at school. of course I had no idea what they were talking about. my parents were always really open about sex and all that. but i learned the most about sex from listening to Love Line on the radio late at night.;)
I used to have an old satalite system, where you could pick up wildfeeds when pointing at random sats. One time when I was 8 or 9 I saw a porno while channel surfing. I didnt really know what the hell it was, but I remember it.
Most kids nowadays just pick it up from each other at school and such. My parents never informed me, I just gradually found out, and in sex-ed you get all the stupid details.
I can't remember, but I think I had a vague idea of how the reproductive system worked by the age of 4 or 5.
I think people have developed a far too unhealthy view on nakedness and sex, even though it's most certainly getting better with time.
For funk's sake, we're still bloody animals with sexual desires and we're all just naked if we strip them off. There's nothing at all to be ashamed of, and I view the general hysteria surrounding naked people to be a big whoop of hypocrasy.
So what if a kid sees someone naked, or even a couple mating? It's not like it'll make them rapists or insecure, whimpering people, cowering in the corner whenever a naughty topic arises.
People should just let their kids develop a natural, rational view on these things, without too much interference or some desperate attempt at blinding them from the "truth" of it all.
Probably on TV when I was like 6 or 7. Yep no matter how hard our parents try, theres no way they can keep us from learning at a young age.

i was very shelted when my parents were together, my dad didnt let us watch bad movies...very sheltered, get grounded for saying Butt. anyway....i found out 8 years old...when my parents divorced..my sister told me about it, as most have said, ive picked up the rest along the way..
I remember dreaming about the nice rack a girl in my class had in the 3rd grade... And before someone makes the obvious joke, yes, I was in the 3rd grade too.
And for the record, she's still got spectacular breastworks... Though that's neither here nor there.

I was thinking more along the lines of showing videos to kids, how it all fits together and that. And stop censoring sex on movies 20 times as much as violence on movies. That's outright ridiculous.
