1. When did you first become/find out/decide you were an atheist/agnostic? I settled on agnostic-atheist at around 1999. But I've always questioned religious doctrine and beliefs. I just never had a need to choose one side of the debate or the other...  [Read More]
Ah. I do not wish to be educated by either side. In that case, further posts by yourself in this thread will be considered off-topic and trolling and, thus, deleted. Please PM me if you have questions or concerns with this....  [Read More]
I don't know how one could be "indoctrinated" into critical thinking. I should think the same way one can be "drowned" in thirst. And I'm not being biased. Just because I don't agree or say I disagree with you or whatever doesn't...  [Read More]
That's fine if they want to put forth another class that teaches creationism. Sure. As long as this sort of superstition doesn't occur in the public schools my tax dollar funds. I'm simply saying regardless of the form both theories should be giv...  [Read More]
Its still the same god. Yahweh didn't step out for "God" in a tag-team style match. They're the same guy. The fact that Judeo-Christian literature and mythology reads like a different god is because the perception of this god evolved with t...  [Read More]

QFT/E. That often tends to be the problem with ancient literature/languages and how they are interpreted in modern times. Interestingly enough, the Hebrew word poth literally means "hinged opening." Yet in a verse found in Isaiah we can r...  [Read More]

Garfield is bent on resorting to argumentum ad hominem and on creating straw man arguments rather than analyzing the data presenting in Nyborg. Interestingly enough, since he was able to locate a disparaging word or two about Helmuth Nyborg, he wasn'...  [Read More]

There is, actually, an interesting point of Nyborg's methodology that I have a question about and I've written him to clarify it. Once that's done, I'll be able to use the independent data he obtained and attempt to duplicate his results. If I can us...  [Read More]

Ah-hah! This is the part you told me about, correct? Very enlightening. Could it be that atheists and agnostics are more dogmatic than Episcopalians, Anglicans and Jews? ;) I could be! I've known some very dogmatic atheists in my time :) I think, h...  [Read More]

The study itself makes no assertion of why, but seeks only to demonstrate the correlation between cognitive function and what people are willing to accept with regard to beliefs. Pentecostals, for instance, are among the more dogmatic of religious a...  [Read More]

So ignoring the fact that Nyborg compiled the data and you fallaciously dismiss it on the grounds that it is easier for you to erect a straw man regarding his past research, how then do you reconcile the fact that, among American adolescents, there i...  [Read More]

Methodology is flawed in that it uses a sample size that was not equal. Nearly 100 to 1.* They got a more accurate average for religious than athiest. That means it would trend toward the average of the US, which last I checked was right around 100....  [Read More]

I actually have more optimism for the Republican party, which I tried (ineffectively perhaps) to convey in an earlier post. I think the "alleged base" is starting to become a thing of the past and modern, younger republicans are starting to...  [Read More]

The plain fact is that Garfield has run up against a wall of rational discourse to which he cannot get around without resorting to red herrings and straw man arguments. He will not attempt to deal with the data as presented since this is empirical,...  [Read More]

He got in trouble for deliberately using bad data to manipulating and misrepresenting data to skew the results, if he did that for one study, what's to say he didn't do it for another. Not that it's relevant anyway, but what data was his in regards...  [Read More]
