I want to know what will be in there. Will it be just this mod, each map seperately (please do, I still don't have a cable modem), MP maps (is you have time of course) and bots (if you have time as well)? I didn't see this any where in the FAQ, if it is, sorry.

The first thing that will be in this section is the demo. The demo will be split up in three files:
a game file (ca. 11 MB), a music file (at least 7 MB) and a video file (at least 9 MB)

We will see how weґll handle it with the complete mod...

Some team members have only 56k modems and we are trying our best to find a good solution for everybody (though it would be irritating to make thousands of file combinations)

Downloading map by map would be bad, they each have source files besides the map that they need.
I personally would prefer 1 file because its simply cleaner and I if I didnt have DSL or cable Id find a place that did with a cd burner and get it.
wouldent putting together the music, video, and game be kinda tricky for average people downloading it?

I think thatґs all just an alternative to the one-file thing we will release.
But if the complete mod really gets over 300 MB we could get problems finding a server thatґll host this monster in several versions...

I don't wanna make more work or put more thought into an already slow moving process, considering you don't update anymore, but why don't you make seperate files and 1 big file posted. That way cable modem people (like myself) have an easy downloading process, and other 56k modem people have an easier way too.:jarjar: :gun7:

Yes, we do update! Apologies for things being slow in the past month but things have been really hectic. That isn't really a problem now - and it has really been a co-incidence that my computer bowled over aswell last weekend.

Anyway, we're returning to the weekend update plan - as you can see I updated today, but next week is a big update. Besides, once the demo is out, you're not gonna care about the website for a while ;)

I will still visit the sit, because I probably can't even download that much on a 28k or 56k (I'm not even sure). Kind of off the topic, but if I don't have a CD-RW drive but my friend does along with a cable modem, could he save the demo files to a CD and then could I take the files off of that disk (or copy them) and into my JO directory. Do I need a CD-RW drive for this to work? I really hope this isn't the case so I will be able to play the game as well.

Well, actually every CD-RW drive can make CD-Rґs which are readable on every cd/ dvd drive.
And yes, your friend can copy the files and you just have to copy them in a mod dir (e.g. C:\JediKnight2\Gamedata\darkforces\ )

Thanks, and I know I really should not have posted that. I asked him in PE today, so I should be able to get my hands on the demo as well. I can't wait!

***I forgot the real reason I came here... I think the following things should be available for download there.
---Demo
---Trailor(s)
---Full MOD
---Each Level Seperately (for those selective users with 28k and 56k modems, like myself)

And of course if you have the time...

---Bots
---MP Maps

I think youd technically be able to use JO bots so we could just skin em. I could always port some old MP map favorites of mine from JK(cloud city, nar shadda)

I think between the demo and full release you can also include m3ps of the soundtrack for Dark Forces. That would be REALLY cool.

We were going to do a sampler type thing, or at least I want Ben to, of the main themes from the soundtrack.

In the demo there will be 4 tracks (I think)

-Menu theme
-Star Wars Fanfare, to Crow flyby
-Secbase Explore
-Secbase Action

Woohoo, DF wallpapers. I hadn't thought of those. Great idea.

I'm confused. Will the menu's music be that eery theme to DF (the opening credits music). I love that song!

Yeah, that's the one ;)

When we have a site that doesn't consist of "Klesk Server Administration" I'll do a news post. But whenever the site goes back online, I won't be able to do a proper update until the weekend.

Luckily I have a couple of weeks off though, starting Sat, so I can work a lot more on the site. The FAQ is where my attention will be focused - I'll be posting about that soon, so keep your eyes peeled :p

Hey, can you change JO's MP3's as well to play DF's end credits instead of ANH's? Also, how will you do the credits? Will you combine them all into one scene like the movies or against the DF logo?

***When I say you, I meant WE as the players downloading this mod. Copy and paste it and rename the copy as endcredits or something?

Iґve found a proper (and uncommon) solution for the credits in the demo. Weґll see what we can do for the full mod. (I have no idea whatґs possible concerning background images etc.)

I believe you got it in X-Wing at the end of Tour III, where you blow up the Death Star. So apparently you gotta make something cause as big an explosion as the one Obi-Wan felt :D

I thought you get that in XWing Alliance also, that was one of the only medals I had recieved because I never killed enough people... Maybe it is to preserve peace, because Alderaan is a peaceful planet... Kyle saved the galaxy from DTs, Luke saved it from Death Star, and Ace Azameen saved it from what ever was in the level you get that medal...

I kinda rambled on up there :D :D :D

Will we be getting a soundtrack for download or not?

It'd be really cool to have before the release, just because the release is still sometime away. Once your done, I think you should zip all of the mp3s up and offer it as a soundtrack: main title scroll to the end credits.

hmm..well, im not sure what the team is doing, but i hope theyre not making the music play like it does in JO. ie, the music changes when something is completed or a new area is reached...because i took the JO mp3s out of the pk3s and there were 100s of mostly bits and pieces of SW movie music, combining different portions. i dont really like it when its out of the game, ingame its ok. but yeah, a soundtrack would be cool. i already have all of the midis and sounds and BMs and stuff out of the original DF.

This is probably manageable. It should be about 50 MB. Once we get final versions of all the music and make it loop nicely I'll work on releasing the soundtrack.

Thanks alot!

I remember above I asked about the DF title music being in it, and someone responded it'd be playing on the menu. I would like to say, this isn't the track I was talking about. If I'm not mistaken, that is the Arc Hammer's musical score.

The theme I was referring to was right after the title scroll, when the credits come up for the first time. You also here it after beating the game. The main end theme plays and then it turns into the DF song, and then back to the end theme (like ESB does for the Imperial March)

I'd post a link, but don't know a website it plays on. I found one once, because I have it on my PC. It's a .wav file. I think this track should play on the menu (if you plan on doing so) if you do not plan on having the credits go up before and after the game.

You're probably talking about this one: http://www.angelfire.com/music4/gffrpg/DfopenL.mp3)
what I call the 'Dark Trooper' theme. I also think it should play during the menu, as this would be the only place to hear it, unless, of course, you decide to add the opening staff credits.

Yeah, the opening music for the Demo was close but not quite right - but we got that fixed now. Kinda ran outta time in the end to fix it.

We are updating all the music but we won't be changing the intro theme to the London Orchestra version - we're sticking with the MIDI sounds for aesthetic reasons. some will not like it, but the vast majority of emails I've gotten liked having the original MIDI, including the intro theme, redone in MP3 format.

thanks!

I'm also for original music instead of reusing williams score, great as it is, it's just overused.
And, yes, I am redoing all of the music from the game, I've been working on making my own soundtrack for quite a while now.
