Hi there,
any idea if and when we can get a pic of the mouldy crow model ??
Any of you guys have to DF stratagy guide? There are a bunch of pics in there.
Will you make the Crow to scale? Making it bigger, or will you make it as large as Lucas Arts made it?
We havenґt discussed this yet. Technically thereґs no problem of making the crow bigger and I think it should be big enough for kyle and jan....
Can you use the Raven's Claw as a base? If you look carefully, the Raven's Claw is the Crow repainted blue and red with giant ugly turbine things replacing the sleek, cool wings Kyle busts off on Ruusan in DF2: JK. I am pretty sure that'd work. I remember in a stupid level I got for JK off the Admiral's Coomand Chamber, you play as Thakuu the Rodian Bounty Hunter. His ship was the Crow repainted white and renamed the Talon. I know nothing about level editing, I just like playing them. (Although I really wish I could make my own levels. If I could and knew what I was doing, I wouldn't hesitate in assisting in this project!)
I believe we already have a moldy crow model transported from another Star wars game.
XWAUP?? or an opting site
yes its the Xwing Alliance one being ported over to MD3
Darth, Incase you haven't already done it, i would strongly recommend that you email whoever you got the Crow OPT from or whoever made it and the textures for it and ask for their permission to use it.
I think Darth_Linux did that quite awhile ago...
that was the FIRST thing I did - thanks for thinking about those types of things though ;-)
In a previous post, I said to use the Raven's Claw. I see you'll be a different model, but does it have landing gear? The Claw has large landing gear so it's possible to walk beneath it. The Crow doesn't, as seen in DF and in a cutscene in JK. I hope you show this. And why has the site been down for so long?

*Points to announcement at top of page*
That was not there when I posted this (I probably would not have seen it any ways). How long will that take? The Crow is much cooler than the Claw. In DF and JK levels, it was sort of gray. Cutscenes showed it to be brown. Will it be brown.
I think it's a browny colour. I've seen some of the textures, but not on the model itself with lighting etc..
Hopefully that cutscene will be knocked off in the next couple of days...
Could we possibly see some in game screenshots of the ship. Since the demo may not come out next week (as close as you guys are to finishing it, I really don't think it will), I would really love to see it flying in above Danuta's base at the end of level 1...

Even I haven't seen that yet :) There will be cutscene shots though :D
There's an in-game shot of the Crow in Salv's editor's corner at Massassi. It's not textured though.
just to keep you informed:
1. the crow is flying :D
2. I resized the model so that itґs roughly as big as the ravens claw.
3. and no, I have no textured version yet.
didnt know u was a dune fan miles teg
My nicknames character appears in book five and six...
I have also made a small website by myself:
[commercials on]
www.duneweb.de)
[commercials off]
(german only and not up to date... but I like it :D )
I took "MilesTeg" because most people use "Duncan" as their nickname... ;)
ooohh, Teg, yeah! isnt he Duncans mentor or something? i read the first 4 books a couple years ago and got about 1/2 through Heretics but stopped and havent gone back. ill prolly read them all again some day, along with the 3 House books
always loved the Sardukar.....kept comparing them to the royal guard or DTs or something like shadowtroopers
itd be nice to see one done for jo
and a fremen skin
WHAT the heck are you talking about?!
no clue Katarn, eh? ever heard of Dune? Frank Herbert? yeah, fremen and sardaukar would be cool, the sardaukar looked pretty funky/cool in the mini-series
I didn't know you were still talking about that...
sorry :D didnt mean to turn ya head to mush katarn lol
Funny you should mention Dune. Alasdair MacDonald (of Crazed Mimbanite fame) made some of the best original enemies for DF, and based them off Sardaukars and Harkonnen troops. They looked absolutely fantastic.
i'm willing to bet it was the dark troopers
My brain is still mush on this whole Dune topic, but I read George Lucas designed the DT with Justin Chiang (concept artist for the prequal movies and the designer and writer of DF and JK).
I know for a fact Chiang was responsible, its on a bunch of sites. But George really wanted in on that project and helped design the DT. I read this on a few sites.
Now just what does this have to do with the Crow?
I think it'd be cool to go INSIDE the Crow, but it would be to big to go inside and it's too late for the makers to do this I think...
and if you made it to-scale in the game, it still might be impossible to get around in. it would be too cramped probably.
Yep, that's what I was trying to say. No clue why I said it'd be big...
Although, in JK it is pretty darned crammed. Kyle sits in the nose with Jan behind him. I presume there is a cargo area behind that and that's pretty much all...
I'm not asking for you guys to do that, I'm just talking again...
yeah, i dont think a game has been made yet where you can creep along on your tippy-toes to fit through gaps
We are on a "feature freeze" for the demo at the moment. Meaning we are adding no new features into the demo, just fixing bugs and polishing things up now ;)
But for the real game, somewhere down the line, who knows? Anything is possible :D
Nice to know that my Moldy Crow came in useful, Nice work guys
Can't wait to try the Demo :D Even though it's past September now
While waiting for the demo to reload (for the fiftieth time today :D), I was gaping at the Crow on the loading screen and noticed the windows are see through. Check it out! It would be hard to near impossible to have spotted that on the pixly DOS screen.
But I was thinking that it'd be kind of neat to make the ports see through during gameplay. That way, you could actually see Jan flying the ship! I saw Infinity_Blade's model for Jan, and frankly, that is just one of the coolest things I've seen for this mod. I can't wait to have her at my side on Jabba's ship. But why limit it to that? If the ports are capable of being see through, I suggest it be done and Jan be placed in the pilots seat once she is completed...
that's a good idea
I'll see if we can make that happen . . .
sweet, that would be cool.
This model was very impressive. But I must ask, does it have engine noise? If it does, I could't hear it because of that noisey E-11 blasting away those troops. If not, I know JK has some, so I suggest adding it to the Crow.
Landing gear should be added also. You don't get the chance to see it in DF, but it is seen once in JK.
For those of us who haven't played JK, the following is a spoiler!
In a cutscene, the Crow is visible resting on some landing gear in front of Morgan Katarn's old house. It's right before the level in which Kyle first arrives on the planet of the Valley of the Jedi. That is the only time we see it.
In DF, you never see the Crow on the ground in cutscenes, and the landing gear would have been too hard to render on the bulky ingame Crow model when it was parked.
So landing gear would be a great addition, though it would necessitate two different models.
The gear itself is roughly the same shape as that of the Raven's Claw; the forward single "foot" is under the cabin (with the windows), while the back two "feet" are under the two engines that stick up into the air.
But I'm getting too technical. ;)
yeah, i think i remember from DF there was an engine sound when the MC came down to land, twas pretty cool. dont remember it from the demo tho.
I know the scene you're talking about. But the landing gear, if you look closely, are very small, unlike the Claw's. I doubt you can actually walk under the ship, so it hovers instead. Also, the entrance I know of is on the top of the ship. Its a small circle that I'm sure has an airlock beneath it. There may be a loading ramp on the belly, but I doubt it, it's a really small ship.
Level 3 and 11 are the only levels the Crow lands, by the way. (311, that's funny...)

The Moldy Crow landing sound is actually included in the demo, but MilesTeg opted to use a different sound - a continuous engine sound - rather than the landing sound. We'll probably make some adjustments to the landing at the Secret Base since it IMO it took to long to circle around and stuff . . .
I did replay the demo and yes I heard the engine. I like that continous engine sound. But the landing sound (from JK, its the same and better) should be included...
