Which game was the first RPG you ever played?
If you don't count Pokemon or Zelda as RPGs, then my first was the action-RPG Nox made by Westwood. I was too young for Diablo, but Nox was a good alternative/clone. I still haven't played either of the Diablos, but I wouldn't hesitate to play Nox again! There were 3 different classes, Warrior, Conjurer, and Wizard, and each class tweaked the storyline different ways. I fell in love with the setting, the nice music, and the tasty 2D isometric graphics. Joanna Cassidy's voice work as Hecubah was also amazing. Note that nostalgia may cloud my judgment.
So what was yours?
I don't remember which one of those two that I got first:
Star Wars Kotor or Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade for Psp
Wizardry - Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry:_Proving_Grounds_of_the_Mad_Overlord) on Apple II...now I feel old :D
Icewind dale1, sure it's terrible when compared to the IWD2, but I was young and foolish so I loved it. Now I can't play it, but I still play IWD2.
Wizardry - Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (

Same! :D
Gotta go round up the party at Gilgamesh's Tavern and head over to Boltac's Trading Post to get some armor and weapons. And can't forget to press E)quip or the fighters will still have AC 10. :o
Ever get a ninja in your party? I'll bet you knew about the Super-Bishop cheat.
Zork... Dang, that game's really old.
KotOR was my first RPG (never knew what an RPG was before that) and I'm still trying to catch up to the veteran RPG'ers. Still so much RPG's to discover and enjoy! :)
KotOR for me as well. Not into RP myself, but most RPGs have infinitely superior stories to FPS nowadays.
Zork... Dang, that game's really old.
That's an adventure game more than an RPG.
I imagine that I played a few on the Amiga and Commadore64 but the earliest one I clearly remember was Super Mario RPG.
Mine too was KOTOR. I'm more of an FPS player, but KOTOR is awesome :P
My first... Hmm... KOTOR.
Which game was the first RPG you ever played?
Don't know if it counts as an RPG, but the first RPG-ish game I've played was Diablo and subsequently Diablo II. After those I got Baldur's Gate II:Shadows of Amn, which was my first more traditional CRPG.
Wizardry - Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry:_Proving_Grounds_of_the_Mad_Overlord) on Apple II...now I feel old :DWizardry was initially coded in BASIC, but was rewritten in Pascal after BASIC proved too slow to be playable.hee~
Kotor 1 was my first and my favorite.
Video Game RPG:
Zork (Commadore 64)
Table-Top RPG:
Wraith: The Oblivion
Hmm... My first RPG...?
Either SW: KOTOR1 or WoW (I play at uncle's from time to time)
The Bard's Tale on the Commodore 64.
Edit: This was also the first game that I actually hacked the save game. :giggle1:
KotOR. Admittedly, I didn't *want* KotOR at the time. I wanted Battlefront 2, but I couldn't find it, and I bought the Best Of PC Star Wars pack, and so I played all the 3 FPS's that were in there, and I got bored, so I installed KotOR, and fell in love...
I played Diablo 2 when it first came out. I managed to get a level 30 pally in act 3 before being overcome by my short attention span and lack of skill playing video games that came with being 10 or 11 or whatever age I was at whenever D2 came out,
My first RPG was KotOR II, and then KotOR I. I guess that I played them a little backwards.
Chrono Trigger.
[/thread]
Digimon World.
How you say about that? :xp:
If Zork doesn't count...
Probably D&D 3.5 (The Basic Game box set)... then AD&D 2.0...
Chrono Trigger.
[/thread]A very good choice. Would've been my first as well, I'm sure, except that I didn't know it existed til the Playstation 1 days (during my SNES days I was relegated to playing what was available at Blockbuster). I'd have loved to play it on original SNES.
I remember the first time I beat it it froze during the cutscene and I had to do it over. I was so mad. :xp:

Way to think to inside the box! :D I forgot about pencil and paper RPGs. I got my first D&D game (
http://www.acaeum.com/ddindexes/setpages/setscans/basic12th.html) about 2 years before Wizardry.
As far as I can remember it was Baldur's Gate. Damn good game and I'm glad I played it because it really got me interested in RPGs.
Since someone said that "Zork" didn't count, I will have to change my first RPG. Hmmm...
Metal Gear The Original (Nintendo)
-or-
Final Fantasy The Original (Nintendo)
I'm not sure if my first was Nox, or Diablo, regardless, they are both great RPgames.
Legend of Dragoon for Playstation.
Dungeons of Daggorath in 1982 ... actually, in the end probably more of an FPS than RP. But I was 9 years old. *chuckle*
I didn't start tabletop RPing 'til I was in high school with Middle-Earth Role Playing and D&D of course...
So, the first CRPG I played is probably Divine Divinity, a really, really decent top-down 2-D RP. I found it in a $9.99 bin at a drug store and figured my old beastie of a computer could handle it.
That was two years ago. So, that makes me a n0ob and an old fart all at once...
Mine was either that one
Digimon World.
or that
Chrono Trigger.
or this one
Diablo II
If you ask me the second one, however, I'm sure it was Breath of Fire IV.
Dude.... TSL, Pokemon, or Baldur's Gate, maybe The Elder Scrolls.
I think the first RPG game I played was Star Wars: Galaxies. Interestingly, my tolerance of the combat in SWG (at the time) was what convinced me to pick up the KOTOR series.
Mine was Pokйmon Red. I chose Squirtle ;D
If that doesn't count... gosh, I can't remember. Might have been a Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy 7... blew me away. *drool*
excuse me, but it was sooooo good hehe.
CRPG: The Ultima Series. (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultima)
PnP: AD&D
Final Fantasy VIII. I had a rad aunt who let me play T games when I was 7. My second was probably Legend of Dragoon.
Since we're not counting zelda...pokemon (but we're not counting that either)
KOTOR!!!!
Hmm, I'd have to say Zork, that games pretty good, very difficult as a little kid but fun :D
Zelda's a RPG? I thought it was an adventure game. Final Fantasy I.
I think that my first was probably Morrowind, then followed by KOTOR.
My first RPG? Tabletop Dungeon's and Dragons (before the Player's Handbook came out).
My first CRPG? KotOR.
Including demos, I think it would be some obscure title called Abomination something. Excluding demos, I think it should be Deus Ex. Not really sure, though. Got fuzzy memories of that era.
For consoles it was Dragon Warrior on the NES. I didn't get into PC RPGs until later with Baldur's Gate.
