Not being a fan of Onderon's default look, I took a whack at retexturing it into some sort of grand marble city. Major setback, though. Some parts (a lot) of the ground textures retain that sandy Egyptian shade, no matter what. I even extracted every floor and wall texture and desaturated them all to make sure. Am I maybe missing some textures, or is this some dreadful unsolvable lighting problem?

Yep it could be the Lightmaps.
Though you should be able to change them aswell.
THey're basicly a second layer of textures.
I don't know what they're named, though, or where to exactly find them.
I think the re-texturing tutorial of Darth Insidious mentions them.
You could have look into that.
I think it is. I can't tell if those are the lightmaps still making portions of the floor appear as though the sun is shining hard on them. I'd like to be able to make the entire Onderon floor marble/stone-esque. I'd reckon I'd either have to disable a particular lightmap or make it a different color to suit my preference (bear with my limited modding lingo).
Quanon, do you happen to have a link to Insidious' tutorial?
Crap. This whole deal with lightmaps is beyond me for the time being. Gunna have to find the time to sit down and figure it out.
In KotorTool you can find the lightmaps in "KotOR II > BIFS > Lightmaps > PC Textures" they are pretty self explanatory. They "map the light" for models in modules. I am not entirely sure it could work but if you extract all the lightmaps for the module you are reskinning, and open them in photoshop or whatever your editing software, apply a black and white filter and resave them. Theoretically, it should solve your problem. Of course there is always the chance that the "Sun" emitter in the module is set to that shade of yellow and is affecting the texture.
A while back I was reskinning Tatooine to snow, I think I was going to do a Hoth mod for KotOR but I had the same problem as you with the light affecting the texture. I can't remember altering lightmaps but its worth a shot ;)
Yes, I keep having this feeling it's got something to do with the sun...
New problem. The lightmaps are .tpc files. I can't find a program to open them with, nor can I extract them as or convert them to .tga files.
You know, there's already a Onderon retexture on KOTORFiles.
Here's the direct link.

It might not be what you're looking for, but it's a little different. Do not ask me anything about this, it's not my mod I'm just pointing you to it.
Here's a couple of Screenshots.
Onderon near Starport. (Sorry, forgot the actual name since it's been quite a while since I got as far as Onderon. So many mods to try.)

Onderon Museum. (I know this, since I have been DLing a mod for it twice.)

Well, to answer the question about TPC files, I know that the latest release of KotOR Tool has a converter to change TPC's into TGA's... So, if you don't have it, you might want to grab it.
@Paul: Looks like an interesting re-texture, once I re-install TSL I'll probably have to download that!
Well as I said, the link on there is a direct link. It's Called Onderon's New Decor.
I knew about that mod. Let's just say it, uh, wasn't my thing.
I have the latest version of KotORTool. The strange thing is it does have the converter, but it doesn't fire with lightmap files...
That mod is a bit...umm....purple.
I'd definitely download an Onderon re-texture, if someone was willing to do one.
I can only suggest that you make sure that in:
Tools > Options > Treeview
You have checked "Always convert TPC files to TGA upon extract". If you have done that and it doesn't fix the issue then I guess you should reinstall it?
There is also a TPC to TGA command line tool, if you want to try that then you may need to do some digging though the Droid Centre forum.
I've noticed this weird extracting to... I must first double click to view the TPC file, just like with the regular textures, to see what it is, and then in the view window there's the Button Write.
This is the only thing that gives me the option to save as a TGA.
Hitting Extract in KT, doesn't seem to "convert" it to TGA.
weird...
That's just the tip I needed, Quanon. It's definitely the lightmaps. I can finally get to redecorating now. Hopefully it goes well...
This isn't exactly what I want, but it's working out so far. Though converting all those lightmaps is going to be a pain in the ass.

Yeah, to bad KT doesn't have a real MASS export out function, though I think it might be possible to like extract a whole "folder" or was it RIM out of KT.
Nargh, my memory is sloppy :p
On a loose note: Whats that Mira reskin/ other head Party Member ?
Looks cool, where did you get that or is it an private unreleased mod project :)
Nope, I don't have the skills to do modeling of any sort. Just basic texturing at best. Mira's head model is taken straight from the TSL Holowan Plugin. You can find the whole thing somewhere here (
http://www.jumpstationz.com/). It's one of the custom-made female PCs. I could never stand Mira's design, so I did some .2da editing. I think that head is perfect with Oldflash's ballistic jacket reskin, which can be found in his Final Touch (
http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Final_Touch;72996) compilation. I believe the shades are his work, too.

d'you know where i can get one?
I believe it is included in the Final Touch mod ;)
