What do you think about the issue of global warming? Do you think that it's a bunch of hype, brought on by the liberal left or the "tree-huggers?" If so, what's their agenda?

Or do you think that the true nature of global warming, the actual ramifications are understated? If so, what's not being done?

well, not ratifying the Kyoto protocol was Clinton's biggest failing, If we dont start looking after our planet then we shall end up with a huge waste land.

Correct me if I'm wrong but its the survival of our genes that makes up the purpose of existence for humans (and also animals) and if the world is becoming less and less habitable then what are our decendants gonna do?

Basically until certain governements realise that the environment is infinitely more important than a couple of dollars we are pretty much doomed.

Well when the ice caps melt we will lose many city's around the world....anything on the coasts really.....everyone will be forced inland....

basically, i think that we have to advance in technology to develop cleaner fuel and more environmentally-friendly material. global warming is REAL. but we dont have to get overworked about it. it isnt a problem now, but for our generation, it will be, when im a working citizen and on my own in the future, it will be a problem for me and my children. but the media just creates hype and i blame the generation of the 60s for our problems. i think our generation can help eliminate this problem. we're smarter than our parents and grand parents. i now for a fact that BOTH GM and BMW are pushing to have liquid hydrogen powered cars by 2010.

This one is kind of hard to tell. You have people saying its doomsday and others saying it's a total myth.

If it is true, boy are we in for some tough times. :(

So, what I do is try to conserve electricity and walk to places and stuff like that. So if it is true, I've kind of covered my bases.

It will be good when we don't need transport which uses petroleum etc and power created by power stations which run on coal and things like that.

However, one reason why my state isn't moving from coal is because we have a lot of it. Something like 800 years worth and that's going to last a long time. I would however, like them to spend our money building environmentally friendly power stations.

OT: Our power stations produce a lot of electricity, one reason why going renewable is a good idea. At one stage we were considering exporting some of it to California but some Californian law prohobited it.

Well I voted for the worst case scenario. Clearly manmade activity is having an effect on the enviroment. The big question is how long till something happens and how bad would it be? With 6,302,309,691 (http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/ipc/popclockw) of us as of 7/1/03 is it any wonder something is going to change?

Good news, if all the ice in the north & south poles melt plus all the glaciers on earth melt as well. The oceans would only rise about 400 feet. So anywhere on earth 400 and above will be dry. You would be suprised how much land is above 400 feet. But not enough to support 7 or 8 billion humans.:confused: :confused: :confused:

The Earth has been "warming" since it's creation, it's not solely the effect of our uses of natural resources and what not. There's proof in the fossil record of cyclical warming and cooling and many scientists are saying we're coming to an end of a warming period and will enter another cooling period soon.

Of course if you're all so hell bent on apocalyptic end of the world scenarios, then it doesn't matter at all if there's global warming and we can all go waste and waste and kill everything because according to "apocalyptics", Planet X is going to show in 2013 or some crap and rip the earth to shreds. Although, it was supposed to be here this past may too, so ya never know. </sarcasm>

uhm we are talking about the heating caused by the sun's radiation. not the earths heat from the inner cores.

OMG, you need to go read some things written from people that aren't environmentalists. The sun itself is getting hotter right now. Of course it's going to heat us some. Don't tell me to "think about it" when you do nothing but regurgitate environmentalist "facts" without actually researching anything on your own.

Yes, I think global warming is a serious problem if left unchecked. And it doesn't help that fossil fuels are the only dominant power source available, and that the oil industry is trying to preserve it no matter the cost. If what I've heard is true, industry lobby groups have succeeded on many occassions in halting research and implementation of "safe power".

I honestly know nothing about global warming, except that it's FREAKING hot here this summer.

It's real, but not a problem...yet.

I haven't been "in touch" with latest news on this problem recently enough to judge, but I think the hype and overreactions have been a good thing, even if a little annoying. If there *is* a problem, you can rest assured people are trying to do something about it. IMHO of course. ^_~

Explain to me why someone who is not an expert has a more reasonable explanation?

When I refer to global warming, I nor anyone of worth has predicted some 100 degree rise or something. But if the earth were to rise just 1 degree over the next 100 years the entire farmbelt of the US would become arid and unable to produce the current yields. I don't imagine some Matrix sci fi scenerio, but a serious decline in the quality of life for future generations.
