Sure. Ummmm...Deac, are you gonna start the topic - considering it's your RPG that the spinoff is based on?

Since Deac hasn't posted here in a while, and he is back, I'm going to start the topic--I did think of the idea, after all. Though I will give Deac credit as to creating the Cantina series.

I'm bumping this thread to explain something that might be used in the RPG called the Eye of Odin.

According to the Gargoyles (http://dir.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/Television/Shows/Animation/Gargoyles/) universe, the Eye of Odin (http://www.dracandros.com/Jebgarg/tge/eyeodin.htm) is a magical artifact created from Odin (http://www.dracandros.com/Jebgarg/tge/odin.htm)'s) left eye.

The Eye of Odin revealed the innermost self of its wearer, transforming the wearer physically (and usually mentally) into an exaggerated version of that innermost self. It also granted appropriate mystical abilities to its wearer.

Xanatos: Wait. This situation (sigh) is out of my control. I thought I could handle it, but... The creature you saw? It's Fox. She's been affected by the jewel she wears. Legend says the Eye of Odin is supposed to endow the wearer with power and insight. I had no idea it had metamorphic capabilities.

Goliath: Perhaps it can give you some insight into Fox's real character. It seems to have made her more like herself.

Eye of the Beholder, Gargoyles

In the case of a mercenary named Fox (http://www.fortunecity.com/roswell/gypsy/44/fox09.jpg), it granted her Eye-created form superhuman strength, speed and agility. It also almost killed her by accelerating her metabolism until she couldn't eat enough to power it.

When the gargoyle Goliath donned the Eye of Odin in order to keep it away from Odin (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/3633/odintravel.gif) himself, it granted all those powers granted to the Archmage and Fox, making him into a god-like being, but corrupted his protective instinct to make him a tyrant.

Goliath, eventually, voluntarily gave up the jewel after he recognized that it had corrupted him. Odin (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Hills/3633/odin.gif) replaced the jewel in his left eye socket, its original place. It transformed back to his left eye, and granted him his full power again.

(Obviously that backstory stuff won't apply to the RPG. I'm just listing source material for reference. ^_~)

The eye had two drawbacks. One, it was difficult to remove, giving painful shocks of energy to any who try to do so (including the wearer). And second, it corrupted the personality of its wearer (except Odin himself).

Just a couple of things about Odin's Eye (the links provide some errors in the myth)

The actual myth has Odin going to the well of knowledge guarded by Mimir. To drink from the well Odin had to give up an eye. There was not a specified eye. This is because all knowledge requires some sacrifice. (Example: To learn you must give up time that could be used for something else). Odin gladly did it and plucked out an eye then drank from the well. Where he gain vast knowledge, and became sad and gloomy since he knew how the world was going to end. Yet he never regretted his scarifice. He then crafted his spear from a branch above the well. After gaining knowledge he sought out the most wise of the giants, disquised as a wanderer. They then started a contest of wits. First the Giant, Vafthrudnir ask Odin a serious of questions. Odin quickly answered them all correctly. Then it was Odin's turn. He asked the Giant a serious and the Giant got them all correctly. Odin finally asked the Giant want did Odin say to Balder. The giant couldn't answer and the myths ends, there. (it is not known whether Odin took the giants head). Odin then hung himself upside down from Yggdrasil for nine days and nights to learn the magical runes. During this time he pierced himself with his own spear.

That said (I don't like errors). My character Odin does have one eye and like many things follows Norse mythology, to a point.

Yes, I have read about the myth. The errors weren't errors; they were explaining the differences between the Gargoyles altered mythology and the actual myth. (I did point out "According to the Gargoyles universe") There were two basic things altered:

A) Odin was a Fey, not a god, and the Aesir and Vanir were not the only 'higher powers'. They answered to Odin as in the myth but Odin ultimately answered to the Fey Lord Oberon (taken from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream).

B) Odin's eye was somehow taken from Mimir's well to Avalon, Oberon's home, where it was transformed into the jewel Eye of Odin. Because of this, the terms of exchange were considered expired, and Odin could rightfully take his eye back, which he did.

This needs to be tweaked if the Eye is to be used in the RPG, of course.

I specified the left eye simply because it was the left eye in Gargoyles. I was hazy on whether it was specified in the original myth (I only read abbreviations of it.)

Redwing: If you would pm me about this that way we can tweak *Odin's eye* with out clogging the board.

At the moment, I've decided to give up rights to Josine, which means that there are basically three people I'd feel comfortable having control her. Deac, Redwing, or Cracken. Those are the only three I really want to control her, and you three can fight over her, if any of you want her.

Also note i have taken Alys out of teh RPG. She's not needed. :)

Besides, i mean, when time snaps back, and the Cantina comes to teh alternate (I think that's what happens) Two Alys's will be confusing.

I don't know - doubles would be interesting. Especially considering they'll go through totally different character development.

You could have Alys in the RPG still, and eventually kill her before the end. Because this is an alternate universe, none of our characters are really guaranteed survival (except Irvine, but he also won't be finishing the quest with the rest of the group)

I for one won't have qualms about killing some of my characters if appropriate. And at least half of them are doubles.

well cracken, I'm sorta afrid that I might need alys in the spinoff. *some ideas i have that would also be useful, and can be supported to wants in C8*

also Irvine has to leave in twenty years (like there could be a time where they all help each other train in Jedi arts or something (cus Irvine has to be a fully trained by the time he gets in c7 :rolleyes)
and I'd like someone to volenteer and 'teach' Irvine the 3-form technique later on in the storyline (what Irvine does in C8 to be in three parts (very good, very evil, and exact opposite on good/evil scale to what the person would be normaly))

Well there was setup for a Misae/Alys storyline. But-

Fully trained? Well, Flax was able to take him on singlehandedly when he showed up, and that with barely any Force power available.

okay remember how i had Irvine split into 3 people in the Council Meeting in cantina 8, Someone has to teach him that

exact opposite personality, but still keeping to what he's really aiming for. (such like killing a certain guy for example)

I have some "protocol" questions related to the Cantina Spinoff (Postlude to Holocaust). ^_^

First: Are we going to end the thread, and start a new one to make it a multiparter saga a la Cantina? If so, I think the time is almost right to do so. If not, disregard everything else ;)

Second: I can end the thread (or Deac, or Admiral, or pretty much anyone with some direct control over the situation and doesn't create a really bad ending and get everybody mad ;)) but who will begin the new one?

Superthrawn by rights should. But superthrawn isn't here. Deac, do you want to? Or shall I? Or the person who ends the RPG? Or what?

All very unimportant *cough* ;) questions that honestly don't matter all that much should be answered as quickly as possible due to their extreme importance! :D
