My personall favorite always tends to be whichever game I played last. So I'm just voting for MI1 because it's the original.

I thought EMI was a good game. SO sue me! Some one had to vote for it! Acualy CMI is probly better but I've beaten it to death and it doen't have the pull it once had. I still find my self going back to EMI thou. Just to play it "one more time".

How ever if it was on the list Grim Fandango would be my fav.

Heh, so if Grim Fandango was a Monkey Island game it'd be the best Monkey Island game.

Monkey Island 1 is a classic and I love it for its inventions like insult sword-fighting.
Monkey 2 has some advantages like the fantastic music throughout the whole game and it is the longest of the bunch.
CMI is very neat to look at, has hi-quality music and voices.
EMI is EMI.

So I voted for Monkey Island 2, but could just as readily have voted for part 3 or 1.

Monkey Island 2 is my favourite. Diverse locations, excellent music, and a great ending. Oh, and it has the Cook Chase theme.

Everyone seems to love 2 the best, but I had bad experiences when I first played it. It was so damn hard, I had to get the walkthrough to beat it! Well, I guess I owe my discovery of Mixnmojo to my difficulty with MI2, so it all works out.

It is unlikely that any other adventure game will ever rival MI-2. Adventure gaming hit its peak in 1992, and we were there.

But if the goodness of adventure gaming was a big graph, it would have been consistently high during the early 90s, dropped off after 1995, and 1998 would have shown a very high blip in a sea of nothingness.

Blip.

Amen to that, Huz. Grim Fandango is the greatest computer game ever made.

Agreed. It's a shame that LEC couldn't market itself out of a paper bag back in those days, or the game could have been a huge success.

I voted for MI2.

It kinda has the original MI feel to it, not to mention the original though, heh.

I feel EMI is a bit underrated. Of course, this a poll for the best MI, and few consider EMI the very best out of all four games, but they're the best damn games I've ever played save for Grim. I think none of them should be put in a negative light.

Eh, I guess MI2, I think it had sort of a polished feel, and it had a great ending, not just the actual ending, but I mean how you cought up with your self, and then played a little game of tag/hide and seek. I just thought it was pretty darn cool. However MI1 will always have a nice spot, as it was the birth of MI. :)

You're not crazy. I guess it just depends on what you treasure most in a game.
Each game has strong points... MI1 has the most originality, MI2 has the best mood (I also find it has the most replayability), CMI has the most pleasing graphics and sound, and EMI is the funniest, if you can dig it that is. ;)

EMI did have a lot of good lines.

Carla: Hey, where's our crew?
Guybrush: How appropriate, You fight like a cow
Carla: You never knew when to use that one

Personally, I think that The Curse of Monkey Island was the best in the series. Not only did I really enjoy the cel animation, but the jokes were great! My favorite gag is when Guybrush drinks the liquid and everything starts to get...different.

I nearly said that Grim was the best, but held back. I do find that my favourite regularly changes between Grim Fandango and MI-2. The thing is, if I had to choose a place to be, ie. be in the actual game, I'd always end up on Booty Island. (Or blood island, come to mention it. I bet that place looks great in sunlight...) I really love Rubacava, and I'd love to there as well, but I think booty wins it by a hairslength.

Rubacava for me! It has all the benefits of Booty Island (ie. the ability to get constantly drunk in the High Rollers' Lounge) plus MOODY LIGHTING! And GAMBLING! And a hint of ORGANISED CRIME!

The only thing it lacks is the Cook Chase theme (http://www.huzatron.freeserve.co.uk/mi2gm6.mid).

I have to agree. If I'm bored and I want to play a classic LEC game, I usually go to LCR the fastest.

Yes, I think it's very much the definative game of the early 90s adventure scene... But it's not necessarily the very best Monkey Island, they're all great in their own ways...

Man, I totally don't understand the love of Monkey Island 2. I mean it was good, but best? No damn way! In fact, it was the worst Monkey Island game so far in my opinion. Boring plot. I guess I'm not jaded by you Monkey Island purists who believe that any sequel with out his holyness at the helm is crap. Oh well, CMI is the best.
