Bik Movie Issues

I stated a little while ago in my TJM that I was having a few problems with this, but I still haven't been able to solve it.

Basically, my Vista PC plays the custom BIK movies when I run through my mod, but my XP laptop doesn't. It plays the movie then crashes the game. No error message, just gets stuck on a black screen and freezes. The normal movies for the game work fine.

In my main mod thread (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=191199&page=3) some players say it's fine for them, but others experience serious problems.

My laptop specs are : - Windows XP OS
- ati mobility radeon 9700 graphics card
- 512 RAM
- Pentium 4

I would be thankful if people could do one of two things :

1- Download this mini mod here : http://www.d-ex-d.com/biktest.zip)

Start a new game and you should have a quick conversation with Revan, during which the bik will play. Please then leave feedback in this thread stating whether or not it worked and what your PC specs are.

2 - Two, help me solve the problem.

Has anyone ever had any similar problems? Does anyone know RAD video tools quite well and know what it could be?

Here's an extra link to the origional wmv file : http://www.d-ex-d.com/TJM002.wmv)

and one to the bik alone if you want to check it plays outside of game : http://www.d-ex-d.com/TJM002.bik)

Does this happen with every BIK file or just that one movie?

Take a look at this (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=194296) before you attempt anything else. I don't have Vista, but I heard that this method seems to run KotOR 1/2 seamlessly on Vista.

I'm afraid it's every bik file. How's the sample on yours Logan?

Thanks for the link, but my Vista PC's absolutely fine. The problem seems to be with my XP laptop.

Is all the settings for your kotor2 the same on both computers, display, graphics, etc

I know when I worked on the RoR mod I did everything in xp compatible.
Ex. certain files which were created in Vista would not be seen in kotor tools unless it was vista too. This lead to me re-saving dlg, script, skins, etc so everything is in one form, XP compatible

I would say the issue is maybe not the movie, when you made the modules into a mod, were all the files created with programs (kotor tools, photshop, 3dmax..etc) set to XP compatable? If not then there might be an issue with the cross between vista and XP.

A fair few people on XP have tried this and they seem to be okay, so I'm not sure it's the problem.

I'm thinking the issue is probably more with how I'm creating the Biks. Say -

- NTSC/PAL settings. I've tried both, still no change.
- 16:9/4:3 settings. The normal game biks were widescreen, but changing mine 16:9 made no difference.

It mainly seems to just be my laptop though. I've only had one other person say they've had issues with the sample. Maybe I'm just being paranoid or something.

It might actually be something like corrupt drivers for my graphics card, I'd just like to be sure.
