So it seems I might as well join in on all the fun and make my own WIP thread.

I'm working on a couple of sabers atm. There's Starkiller's saber from the Force Unleashed that I started a while back in response to a thread (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=192723) about it:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Starkiller-Saber-Render-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Starkiller-Saber-Render-02.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_SK-Hilt-Position-WIP.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/SK-Hilt-Position-WIP.jpg)

Modelling was finished ages ago - triangulated mesh is 759 polys. I tweaked the UV map and texture today to improve the texture over the emitter shroud. It's all but done, it has just been the hilt positioning in-game that has been holding it back. Because it has an open crystal chamber low down, I had to position the hilt so the blade passed through this area, meaning that in-game the bottom hand ended up being off the end of the hilt. Fortunately though svösh came to the rescue and helped work out a solution. The pivot just needs some minor tweaking to bring the hands down a shade and then I'll release it.

My newest hilt is Luke's ANH saber. I've been playing K1 and using Oldflash’s Movie Style Hilts (http://knightsoftheoldrepublic.filefront.com/file/Movie_Style_Replacement_Lightsaber_Hilts;72773) mod. They are mostly pretty damn good (not that you can really appreciate it in-game, but checking them out in GMax is illuminating), but I noticed that Oldflash didn't do a Graflex-style hilt (either Anakin's ROTS hilt or Luke's ANH/ESB hilt) or provide a hilt to replace the Mantle of the Force hilt (but did for the Heart of the Guardian). So seeing as MOTF is blue(ish) and it wasn't already in the movie sabers set, I figured Luke's ANH or ESB hilt would be a good fit. I wanted to make it reasonably accurate while still keeping the poly count down. Here's what I've come up with so far:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ANH-Saber-01.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ANH-Saber-01.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ANH-Saber-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ANH-Saber-02.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ANH-Saber-Render.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ANH-Saber-Render.jpg)

Modelling is done. Triangulated mesh is 816 polys. The texture isn't great (mapping/texturing is my most hated aspect of modelling), but once in-game and blended with an envmap it will look fine.

Btw, I know Oldflash did later do an Anakin ROTS hilt to replace the MOTF, but I like my Luke ANH better. ;) Plus it's more an exercise in practising low poly modelling, which in many ways is much more challenging than more regular types of modelling I've done in the past.

There's a couple of hilts there that are very similar. Most are single hilts, but they could easily be converted into double hilts.

Whoops, forgot the d-ring to hang it from my belt (not that anyone in either game actually seems interested in letting go of their weapons).

And here's the hilt in-game. Just need to tweak the size ever so slightly as the dreaded hand clipping has returned to haunt me again.

So I've been messing around with some texturing techniques for the last day or two. It has had some mixed results, but I think it produced a texture for the Starkiller saber that I'm reasonably happy with:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Starkillers-Saber-06.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Starkillers-Saber-06.jpg)

A few elements could be tweaked, but given that you won't see much detail in-game anyway I think I'm about done with it.

I've also been playing with a couple of new sabers. The first is Luke's ESB saber (Dagobah variant) to go with the ANH saber.

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ESB-Saber-01.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ESB-Saber-01.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ESB-Saber-Render.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ESB-Saber-Render.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Luke-ESB-Saber-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Luke-ESB-Saber-02.jpg)

There are clipping issues with both sabers when dual wielding because of the clamps in the middle. However, because they face in opposite directions, each hilt only clips one hand. By having both you can avoid clipping by using the ESB saber in the left hand and the ANH saber in the right (i.e. clamps facing inwards).

The second saber is likely familiar to most of you:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Kyle-Katarn-JKII-Saber-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Kyle-Katarn-JKII-Saber-02.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Kyle-Katarn-Saber-Animation.gif) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Kyle-Katarn-Saber-Animation.gif)

Before anyone utters the dreaded "P" word, this is a new mesh made by me from scratch.

Could you by chance add this saber (http://www.parksabers.com/doublehelix.html) to your wip(s)?As I mentioned, there are some sabers I modelled for TriggerGod that come close. I've done some double saber conversions and passed them onto TG for mapping and texturing. Keep an eye on TG's WIP thread (http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=192692) for release of the final versions.

I noticed the MMO has put up some new concept sketches. The sabers are garbage but the blaster rifles look quite good:

I thought it might be beneficial for what's left of my hairline to take a short break from sabers anyway, so I decided to take a crack at one of the blaster rifles. Still in the early stages of blocking out the shape at the moment.

The MMO has put up some new screenshots and concept art, amongst which was a concept Jedi saber. I haven't liked their previous sabers, but this one doesn't look too bad. Decided to take a crack at it:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_MMO-Concept-Jedi-Saber-01.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/MMO-Concept-Jedi-Saber-01.jpg) http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_MMO-Concept-Jedi-Saber-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/MMO-Concept-Jedi-Saber-02.jpg)

It's still in flux - I'm tweaking the proportions as I go (you might notice I've shortened it slightly in the second pic).

I decided to take a break from sabers and try my hand at something else. I thought it might be interesting to check out the dancer's outfit mesh and see if a slave Leia conversion would be possible. The majority of the work required is re-texturing (which I suck at), but there are some mesh tweaks necessary. I wasn't sure how radical a change was possible, so I started off with a simple lengthening of the skirt. Looks OK when they stand still, but looks a bit funky when they run.

Here's a pic with costume ref, in-game shot of the lengthened skirt, and original mesh + texture ref:

how do the animations work on that model? The skirt uses bones. There are two bones on the front and two on the back. All I've done is to pull down the bottom row of the skirt's vertexes, so it tends to flap around a bit stiffly. There's also some clipping of the feet through the back part when running. Works better than I expected though.

Pruned some posts as they weren't really necessary, and showed a lack of reading comprehension skills on a particular posters part. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread. ;) -RH

I was working on something for someone else earlier and I realised I had a few unfinished texturing projects laying around. One is the Slave Leia outfit posted above, but the other one is a Mira retexture I started around the same time. I'm not sure I like the red - I think I may go back to green. And she probably needs something under the jacket to stop her getting a cold.

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Mira-Reskin-WIP.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Mira-Reskin-WIP.jpg)

Originally I planned on giving her ultra small hotpants, but the UV map makes that extremely difficult, so I cheated and lengthened them. I may need to adjust the map anyway though as I currently can't put a bottom strap on the right thigh pouch without it being mirrored on the left leg. I kind of wanted a Lara Croft style thing.

I think the model needs some adjustment too. The shoulder pads are kind of ridiculous, and she could stand a few other nips and tucks. If I could get rid of the raised sleeve on the left arm I could go with my original idea of a short sleeved/sleeveless jacket.

You could try what I did for my Carth's Jacket remodel: Wing it and try to re arrange the vertexes of the raised part to resemble an arm.

And try that with the thigh pack, if you can't get the strap right. I think the pack would be rather uncomfortable.

I'd say editing the model would be easier. Although in the end, you'd have to edit the UV Map anyways, so that her leg doesn't have the texture of the pack.

So I started another TSL run through recently. I haven't done any modding for a while, but while playing I got the urge to mod something that has always bugged me. Namely, that the supposed armour of Darth Malak doesn't actually look like anything Malak wore in the first game. So I decided to have a crack at a reskin. Fortunately TSL includes the Malak models and textures, so I may release this eventually.

I'm still working out the kinks. The same sort of issue as the Mira reskin has cropped up again - one of those damn leg pouches. Not sure If I really want to edit the model, so I might just skin it to match the legs. The chest pipes are a similar thing, although I've already attempted to blend them in texture-wise. There are some protruding shoulders which I've left as the default metal for the present. I skinned the hands as black gloves, as I figured that was easier to cover the 3 racial skintone variants for PCs.

Here's a pic of the skin in its current guise:

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_TSL-Malaks-Robes-02.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/TSL-Malaks-Robes-02.jpg)

And a comparison of the original, the reskin, and Malak (sans skirts):

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_TSL-Malaks-Robes-01.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/TSL-Malaks-Robes-01.jpg)

As an aside, Malak is a freaking giant! I'm not sure you get to really appreciate the magnitude of it properly in the games, although I just did the Korriban caves earlier this evening and you can kind of see it in a few shots of the recruitment cutscene.

So I decided to have a go at something I've been considering for a while, namely the sword Dein Nomos from the JRPG Tales of Vesperia. It still needs some tweaking and I haven't mapped it yet - just slapped on some procedural textures for rough colour indications.

http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/th_Dein-Nomos-WIP-01.jpg) (http://i374.photobucket.com/albums/oo185/DarthParametric/Dein-Nomos-WIP-01.jpg)

Those who have played TOV will be familiar with the sword, in particular the glowing ball of energy normally at its center. Unfortunately that bit isn't going to be possible in KOTOR.

I was thinking a nice companion to go along with it might be Yuri's Fell Arm, the Abyssian sword. Might have to boot up the game again and have a closer look at some of the other weapon designs as well.
