I have already installed and unistalled Autodesk 3ds Max and now it won't work. What program can I use to remodel something in K1?

Well, did you install NWMax for 3DS Max as well?

You need that to import/export mdl files.

Don't forget, you also need mdlops in order to convert the .mdl files into ascii mdl's so that they can be opened.

Try Google for NWMax, and then try hunting in the Workbench for mdlops.

You could always use Maya...It's an Autodesk, so you can find it here (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=7635018). Many people use it, but my suggestion is to keep trying to persuade Max to work...it's the program!;)

P.S. The programs FN mentioned can be found here: NWMax for Gmax (http://nwmax.dladventures.com/download/NWmax-gmax-v0_7setup.exe) | NWMax for 3D Studio Max (http://nwmax.dladventures.com/download/NWmax-3ds6-v0_7setup.exe) | MDLOps (http://home.comcast.net/~cchargin/kotor/) )

You can always use GMax, it's a free program that's Max based. Also, if you posted what was wrong (as in won't import, won't install, or doesn't run) as well we might could help you out better.

Thanks Istorian!

But, Harlll, stick with 3DS Max! As Istorian said, its the program... did I emphasize that enough?

Once my school gets around to offering the free download (Yep, I get it for Free for a year through my Highschool!) I'm gonna snatch that up... and then try again at trying to figure out modeling... it just doesn't make much sense to me...

Thanks for your suggestions but to clarify my problem a while back I installed Autodesk 3ds Max. A short time later I unistalled it and through the process, it left a file somewhere saying that if this guy installs this program again, he has to activate the software and I don't have an activation code (at least on hand). So for now, I can't use the program in any way, shape, or form. That's why I'm asking about other programs.

Just like @Sithspecter said, you can use G-max (freeware) which has almost same functions like 3dmax v5 and is ok for kotor (there is a import export plugin for gmax).

It's a trial version but I have a program that can extend the trial.

Well that sounds awfully suspicious. :)

So no, you don't have 3DS Max. If you want to keep using it you'll need to buy it.

Would you know of any places that I could go to to find a full version 3DS Max?
