Porting Concern - Does footage count as porting?

Basically, my question is this : If I were to mod a section of KOTOR 1 then film whatever was happening there by capturing it (with Fraps or similar) and turn it into an AVI file (then converting it to a bik), then using it as a movie in a KOTOR II mod, does this still count as porting, since none of the physical files are being 'ported'?

To put it in context, I'm thinking about just showing some Selkath cheering on Manaan and Some Wookies on Kashyyk when the villains are defeated at the end.

I'm thinking that this might fall into a certain gray area, but I'm also thinking that if people can put footage from their games onto Youtube, then maybe I can do this.

Anyone help? If I haven't explained this very well, please say.

Umm..

That's a hard one.. (<-)

Well, strictly speaking, it's not porting as you're not using the actual game files.

On the other hand, you're using part of K1 in TSL, even if it's indirectly..

I could be completely wrong, but there shouldn't really be a problem.

I'm not sure, but I think that it would still be classed as porting.

Porting is using game assets from one game in another game. You're not doing that, so you should be fine. If anything it would just serve as a little advertisement for TSL players who don't already have KotOR1 to pick it up. ;)

As everyone else said it shouldn't be a problem, no game files from KotOR were put into TSL by you.

<insert testicular joke here>

Anyways, like Marius, I'm not sure on this. On one hand, is Inyri. Its just footage taken from K1. But, on the other hand, footage is made from K1 into TSL.

I'd agree.. or at least be out the door with ya when D3 crushes us with her Darksi... err.. "legal" powers

It's a .bik anyways.. not a lot of asset exploiting going on there ;)
I don't foresee any problems with it. Mac or The Source did some TSL billboard mods which incorporated screenshots taken from K1 and it was OK. Yours would just be a "moving" version of it.. kinda.. sorta.. in a way... :xp:

In the real world, the 2 are one and the same. Sometimes theres a slip up, and they do an Lightside action, but then they counter that 1 LS Point with 10 DS Points.

*Looks back over the above statement*
I need to take a break from TSL for a while, evidently

I really don't think it's a problem. You're using film recorded yourself from something you own. It shouldn't be a problem.

That's true for some of the sleazier defense attorneys and such in America, but it's not always the case in other parts of the world ;)
