I was having problems UVW mapping in Gmax. (Refer to http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=187390)
Frustrated, I went out and got 3D Studio Max. I have been playing with the far superior program and have figured out how to do the mapping. But there are two problems I need to overcome.

First; I can't seem to import gmax projects into 3DS Max. If I have to start over from scratch then I basically wasted a lot of time. If anyone knows how to overcome this, please let me know. (Links welcomed.)

Second; I can't figure out how to get the NW Max plug-in to work with 3DS Max. NW Max is an invaluable tool in regards to modding. I'm afraid I may have wasted more than just time if I can't get my mods in game. As with the statement above, Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone.

Ah, one of the biggest problems that faces ex GMax users who now use Max instead.

You can import from Max to GMax easily, by exporting the model as a 3ds instead of a .max, but that's not what you're after.

The way I do it, is to export my gmax model to a .mdl using NWMax first.
Then import into Max.

The only other way I can think of, would be to export your model as an .md3, then open it in 3D Exploration and convert it to a 3ds.

As for installing NWMax, what is the problem?

NWMax is linked to Gmax. I can't figure out how to get it to open with 3DS. Should I just remove it then reinstall it with 3DSMax? Will that even work?

i dont haev a clue how Gmax works but if its anything like 3dMax 9 then these will help

http://www.oman3d.com/tutorials/3ds/texture_stealth/)
that site helps with basic texturing using max

http://www.video-tutes.com/packages/3d1.php)
s hte very best Max tutorials page around, everythings in video format and will stream in hte background so you can do it step by step in max while watching the vid.

not sure if this is what your after, but if Gmax is just Free 3dmax then these will definatly teach everything you need

You have to download a special 3ds max version of GMAX.

Darth: I did that, but it still didn't run. Now after scouring my program files, I realized it created a sub folder that was named for the sixth iteration. I have the ninth. So I cut and pasted things into their corresponding folders and now it works. It was a simple solution but I am thankful now that its running.

So should I just save my Gmax stuff as mdl's and load it into Max? If that's all, then I shouldn't have anymore problems. If I do, would you mind if I pm you?

Angelus: You're a little bit off with my question, but I thank you for the links.

Just attatch your model to an AuroraBase then export it normally from GMax, then import the ascii into Max as per normal yes.

If you have any problems PM me and i'll try and sort you out. :)
