Okay, first off I'm new to modding K1 and TSL. Second I know they are someone old now and I'm not seeing as many mods being made for either games. But I want more replay value for mine at least, thus I've decided to mod my games.
Now, I play K1 more then TSL because, at least for me, TSL has soo many bugs, glitches, and things wrong with it.
So, my idea/plan is to take some things from TSL and try and get them to work in K1. Armors for example. Maybe the Wrist Launcher as well, I love that thing and I want to use it in K1.
Now I thought that it would be a simple thing of ripping out the models, textures, animations, and appearances from TSL, give them custom names(after trying the original named files first) and slap tham into K1's Override folder. So I did just that, I grabbed Mandalore's armor models and textures and slapped them into K1. Then I added a new line to my custom K1 appearance.2da and copied the Mandalore line from TSL's appearance.2da and saved. I then took what I thought was the right armor to use, in this case a heavy Class 9 armor(I tried with each Class 9 armor btw), gave it the "Disguise" property and just picked one. I then saved the XML, opened the XML and edited what it was, in this case I changed it from "test" to "Alien_Mandalore" and "Sub-type 510" (the custom line I added to my appearance.2da file), saved the XML, loaded it back into the item, and saved the item as "g_a_class9033" since I have already made two custom armors from K1 as 31 and 32. I thought that was enough, but I was wrong. I started a new game, saved, exited K1, opened up KSE and added the armor. That part went fine. So I started K1, loaded the save, and the armor showed up in the inventory. The problem came when I tried to equip it, the came crashed on me, both with the original named files and the custom named file.
Now I know that custom models can be used in K1, I've seen mods that do it. So what am I doing wrong, where did I screw up?
Thanks in advance,
NHI
Simply dragging and dropping the files won't work, as TSL and KotOR have different file formats.
"Porting" the files would be possible, but the discussion of said topic is not allowed here on LF.
First of all, I think making the wrist blaster is impossible. There are just simply limits to what we can do. And about your armor, if you just want to do this for personal use, you'd have to use MDLops to convert it from K2-k1. But it still might crash even then.
Welcome to the forums, NeutronHInc!

I use several IM programs, so if you feel like telling me what your talking about, feel free to contact me on any one of them thats in my profile here.

Welcome to the forums, NeutronHInc!Well, how would I go about doing that? As I said I'm very new to modding. Simple Item copies is one thing, I did that to make Black Mandalorian armor for Canderous, and to make some other custom (stat changes, color changes, the simple stuff) armors for K1.
But I have no knowledge of how to get this idea of mine to work...
I want to "copy" at least two armors from TSL into K1...
a_heavy_x01 Mandalore's Armor
a_robe_20 Jal Shey Mentor Armor
Now, for Mandalore's armor... Is it using a Disguise property like the Mandalorian armor does, or is that the model of the NPC Mandalore?
Any and ALL help anyone can provide is welcome. You can also contact me via any of the IM accounts I have listed in my profile here.
*Ahem* Remember what I said about porting discussions?
7. Mods containing assets (models, textures, sounds, etc.) ported from another game are prohibited
It is against Lucasarts policy to port assets from one game to another. Holowan Laboratories does not condone porting of this nature, and moderators will close or delete any thread or posts discussing such mods, even if it is for your own personal use. The exception to this is if the asset in question is present in both KOTOR and TSL. Modders may create from scratch mods that resemble assets from another game.
I just added you on MSN to answer any other questions you have. :)
Okay, so I guess my idea would fall under this Porting rule here then. Oh well. I guess I'll stick with simple edits of armors already in K1. No biggie. :( Would have been cool though.
