I downloaded Culture Shock from GameTAP, and I would like to know where my saved games are stored.
Probably on Gametap's server. As far as I know everyone here either opted into a full season or gets Pre-release review versions.
So, how do I get to them?
IDK, you could try using Gametap's Tech Support.
I'm pretty sure they're on the hard drive somewhere.
It should be in the Sam and Max folder in your Program Files.
I don't have a Sam & Max folder since I downloaded Culture Shock from GameTap.
Is there a Gametap folder? Maybe you should ask Jake.
Yes, there is a GameTap folder, but it doesn't contain any game data.
Just search for files with an actual timestamp after you saved a game?
I tried that earlier today.
Maybe it's stored in the registry.
I've already checked.
Besides, I have heard that the extension is .save
Check if it's stored in "thar web". Just cut your internet cable in half and burn it to be really sure. Then try to save a game. If it still works, it has to be on the harddisk. I hope you didn't search for *.save files only, eh? (Yes, I could say
"maybe you're just too stupid or something" instead, but this way it is more fun!)
I was able to save a game with the Internet cut off.
Send me money, so I can actually buy the game to err investigate further?
Hm. Did you search for modified, created or accessed files?
So why didn't you try e-mailing Gametap about this?
My father did E-Mail them, and they weren't very helpful.
Well then, they're not going to be getting my business! And that's because I already ordered the whole of season one in advance from Telltale.
They were saying copyright issues, but how can saved games be copyrighted?
They can't. And I think legally a company is required to tell you what files they put on your computer, assuming that you are saving to your harddrive or registry and not the internet.
Murry, are you going to hire a crackerjack attorney and bring GameTap to justice?
Lets chase down Ted Turner and shove napalm up his expensive ass!!!
I'm sorry, we're just no match against Captain Planet. (

Murry, are you going to hire a crackerjack attorney and bring GameTap to justice?
I don't have any plans to, but if this matter cannot be resolved, I will be giving Phoenix Wright a call!
Should call Johnnie Cochran, wait, he's dead.

Okay, I have looked into this some more, and found that when you launch a game from GameTap, two virtual drives are created: one at X, where the game data(including saved games)is stored, and one at Y, for the CD in games that use one.
These drives do not appear in the Explorer, and if I try to access them in another application(such as DRAGON UnPacker or Hex Workshop)I get "Access is Denied".

Copy protection may be required to keep GameTap from becoming a piracy haven, but it is NOT okay when it prevents you from accessing your saved games(either to back them up, or to copy over one you got from somewhere else).
Gametap sounds stupid. Just buy from Telltale. And if you want to play Incredible Machine Contraptions, it's like 3 bucks on Amazon.
I am going to start getting Sam & Max straight from Telltale, I just need to be able to back up my Culture Shock saved games first.
I wonder if the saves are different on Gametap though?
I'm sure Telltale doesn't hide secret "copyright" saved games on protected hard drives that get temporarily created on your PC.
My saves are stored right in my Telltale folder, well not exactly, they're stored in a Data folder inside of the Telltale folder.
