*************Tie's Launch Goodness Line-up*************
Near 1st: XBOX360
Game Pros: Higher mean, more games,
Game Cons: sh*tty ports, not very original games
Console Pluses: Graphics, cool look, Xbox Live, Live Arcade, Guide/Dashboard integration, demos, plays MP3 players, connects to PC, music at all times, friends list, achievement points, games list, game invites, chat, customizable interface, Avatars, marketplace, player feedback, can survive roll-over collisions (
http://www.joystiq.com/2006/11/18/360-survives-hit-and-run-accident/)
Console Troubles: Rarity at launch, breaking consoles, scratched games, Xbox Live price, sound, smallish HDD, not enough backwards compatibility (30-40%), "PWR blok!!!!11", no in-game 1080p support
Tied 2nd: PS3
Game Pros: Resistance, graphics
Game Cons: Some lack-luster exclusives, 4 of the good games are sports games, 5 are ports [including sports games], a few of the games suck hardcore
Console Pluses:Graphics, Free multiplayer, online browsing, Linux, glossy, 99% backwards compatibility, larger HDD, 1080p support, tilt, menu button thingy
Console Troubles: Price, many of the hyped games sucked, stole Guide button and tilt sensitivity, huge size, multiplayer can't hold a candle to XBL, no mic included, can't connect to PC or MP3 players, expensive features that most consumers won't really use (paying for technology you don't need), no 1080i support,<-(?) little marketplace, no rumble, no replaceable batteries, extremely limited, Killzone 2 sham
Tied 2rd: Wii
Game Pros: Zelda FTW! *Not all reviews in yet*
Game Cons: Future looks grim *Not all reviews in yet*
Console Pluses: Controller is pretty revolutionary, cheap price, Avatars, family friendly, backwards compatibility, download old school games, market place, small size, cool look
Console Troubles: Controller is reportedly a little less awesome then expected, gimmicky feeling, wonky in some games, not as universally friendly/compatible as 360, little (or no?) real mulitplayer, controller speaker is buggy and cheap sounding (see Zelda video review), graphics really do matter- no matter which way you look at it.
More later (maybe)
**************
Err... Disclaimers?:
*=You may be thinking "They gave it higher because they had comparatively awesome graphics",
but remember, a lot of the games were Last-Gen games with new coats of paint,
not in essence completely next-gen. Kind of a leveler.
**=Console exclusive.
***=Not used, lol.
