In celebration of this wonderful new board, we'll kick things off right with a question.
What's your favorite RTS?
myself:
1) Starcraft and Starcraft: Brood War
2) Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings
:D
*drinks root beer in celebration of new board*
Oooh oooh! I'm not into this type of game! :dozey:
I guess if Warcraft III counts, that would be my favorite.
well, i guess i'll just have to list the only rts i ever played: c&c-generals.
that might change if i get lotr: bfme.
Battle of Troy, Warcraft II and AoE 1,2 and Mythologys.
well sorry but the command and conquer series is still my favorite.
with topping it all.
Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun.
with a small list of cool ones:
1. Dune 2
2. Command and conquer
3. Red alert
4. Warcraft II
5. Warcraft 3
6. Starcraft + expansion
7. Age of Empire (first)
thats about it.
Wraith 8
SWGB all the way! I'm also really into Dawn of War at the moment, but I'm not sure if it will have the lasting appeal of SWGB.
The Battle for Middleearth! The best game ever!
1) Age of Mythology
2) Age of Empires II
;) yes I did play other RTS games.
Age of Empires
StarCraft
BFME was a horrible let down. :(
C&C generals and Galactic Battleground
of all time
generals??? c&c generals SUCKED!
Definately AoE I-II, The entire C&C series and Warcraft III.
With out question,
at the top SWGB and CC, based on the AOE engine but much faster. Then...
StarCraft
Axis and Allies RTS
RON
AoM
AoK
Perimeter is one of the best and original RTS that has been made recently.

no it did not, warcraft 3 did.
Now now no fighting over other people's tastes, we don't want to start a flame war.
StarCraft is IMO, the best story driven RTS ever made. With its great storyline and unique and rich environment, no other games comes close to how this one affected me. Great characters, great unique civs, excellent gameplay and great support makes this game a classic of the genre.
Other then that, I really liked SWGB and AoK. There are other fun RTS out there but none got my attention as much as these did.
Boy, I remember the first Age of Empires. I saw my older cousin playing it, and i fell in love with it.
Right now, BFME is really entertaining. There's also AoM, CnC Generals and Zero Hour.
WC3 and the C&C serie's :D
I still play Starcraft. It has a great Map editor, and I play a SC version of the battle of Helms Deep every couple of days with my friends ^^
Age of Empires 2: The Age of Kings+The Conquerors
Warcraft III is also great.
I cannot understand that nobody shouted Anno 1602! It was so great and it was my first PC game.
Oooo toughy. Well here goes my top 3:
1: Rome: Total War
2: Homeworld
3: Homeworld2 (first is just better to me for some reason)
A modded version of BFME is also keeping me happy every once and a while.

No its not mine. I alternate between using Epic Warfare mod, and The Masters of Middle Earth Mod. 50 uruks to a battalion is more my style. And sauron... got to love sauron...
The Conquerors, no doubt. Then SWGB:CC.
Command And Conquer Generals...Definitely

Couldnt say it better.
Empires, Ground Control (OK, so that's a tactical game, not a strategy game, but oh well), Empire Earth, and Age of Empires 2. Not necessarily in that order.
The C&C series is good if you like that kind of... game, but I like more serious titles. The cliches and stereotypes of the C&C series get too childish at times:cool: , and I didn't like any other C&C game than Generals anyway...
BFME is not a bad game, in my opinion, but it's wa-a-a-y too simplistic and shallow for my liking. I prefer deep, involving titles.
Homeworld and Warlords are OK, but again, I like deeper games, so they're not my thing.
Warcraft III definetly has the world's best unit and building editor, and it's not a bad game either... But again, it's just not my type of game.
Galactic Battlegrounds was neat too.
Age of Emipires: 1&2 (great games)
Age of Mythology (not as much as Age of Empires)
LotR BfME (I like the fact that everything showed emotions)
The moon project/Lost souls (the same game, different campaign)
Something about that game I just can't get over. Maybe it has something to do with unlimited # of units controlled at once, or a ton of customizability with the units and buildings. Only thing missing from this game was a scripting tool with the map editor.
^^^^
My friend was complaining about the same thing.
He eventually downloaded it from a mod from some website.
At the moment, Ground Control II. Empire at War will probably be much better, though.
I don't seem to have a particular order here...
1. C&C series (until RA2, Tiberian Sun was ok)
2. Age of Empires series
3. Star Craft
4. War Craft 3
generals??? c&c generals SUCKED!
A matter of opinion I suppose, but I would have to agree that it did... It was rushed.
The C&C games, and Starcraft
I cannot understand that nobody shouted Anno 1602! It was so great and it was my first PC game.
Yeah, Anno 1602 was a great game. I never found it around though, it wasn't a "big" game. There was also another cool game called Moonbase Commander. It was very addictive. You have to command an AI taking over Moon. Various buildings are connected by glowing lines and you have to aim and shoot packs to deploy buildings. The whole game was like a mixture of puzzle and RTS (it was actually turn-based, come to think of it).
I don't really play them anymore, but I had the most fun (and hours put into them) with these:
1. StarCraft (never got around to getting Brood Wars though)
2. Early C&C games (C&C, Red Alert)
3. Total Annihilation
4. WarCraft 3 (plus WFT)
5. Ground Control
Force Commander OF COURSE!!!
Star craft Brood wars
AoMythology
AoE II Conqueror
Warcraft III the Frozen Throne
too bad rebellion was so... lame :D
Wait...your name seems so familiar...I've seen you somewhere...
For me it will always be Total Annihilation...
*Gets ready to dodge tomatoes!*
:D
Wait...your name seems so familiar...I've seen you somewhere...
Hint: Aresen.
Rome: Total War, particularly for the campaign mode and the fact that hitpoints aren't really involved. And the morale factor. Oh, and no resource gathering, just econ :)
Hint: Aresen.
I remember him from GeeBeedotcom, not Aresen.
My favorite RTS is Age of Empires II: Age of Kings. I consider the AoE series the founding of RTS games anyway. Other good RTS are Warcraft II, Starcraft, and Battle for Middle-Earth is fun.

Perhaps for you, but the first real RTS that everyone was going to build upon was Dune 2.
Dune 2 on the amiga was a true masterpiece and the first real RTS ever. It had it all. And I believe some of the guys behind that, are working on EaW...because Westwood were responsible for it, before EA swallowed them up
DMUK
AoK:TC most definitely. It is insanely fun, deceptively deep, and brilliantly made. It may not have come out as early as Dune 2 or have the widespread adulation of StarCraft, but it is the template on which all RTS's are based and the game against which they are judged (outside of the Total War Series and its spawn).
SWGB comes in second, for obvious reasons.
I liked any C&C game, age of empires 2, rebellion (if it counts). I loved red alert 1 it was the first rts i ever played and i still love it to this day.

geebee what???
what the hell is that? XD :king1:
