As you can see by the recent release of the demo, the DF Mod team has come a long way in the last 2 years . . . but, we still need mappers who can do extensive scripting with the Icarus script engine.

If you are an excellent mapper who has good skills with scripting events then please send me or The_One an email and let us know about you - we need YOU to finish the other 11 levels of Dark Forces . . . .

This is arguably one of the best SP mods ever! - be a part of it and join our team today! . . .

thanks!

I'm neither a mapper nor a scripter, the only thing in wich I can help you, is to provide a better English-French translation, because -excuse me- there is many mistakes and sense errors in the traductions... :D ;) ;)

For example :

"Abondon" instead of "Abandon"
and : "Depart" instead of "Commencer", because whe use "Depart" for a run, and not for this (starting a game)

:o :o :o :o :o

Parts of the JA messages we kept from the original.
But for the new strings...
Although i was living 11 years in France,
my French is rather rusty now, so please excuse my mistakes

You are welcome to send me your better translations of course,
since i'm the official Dark Forces Mod language coordinator :p

I'll redo the demo to see everything I haven't seen. Buit for the original translation made by Ubisoft (distributor in france) for Lucas Arts, they made mistakes in the sentences they've translated, I mean that some of their sentences have no or not enough sense (a few only).

I know... but i also know that i was not at all interested in Star Wars when the movies came out in France.
Of course, friends were already playing with AT-AT and snowspeeder models.
But It was as we would play with Lego or Playmobil etc.
No real sense behind at that age. Man, i was only 10 then...

Since i don't have kept any knowledge of the typical French Star Wars sentences,
i decided to keep the original strings as they were,
and tried my best on the DF Mod related ones.
And I was hoping someone of the French community would help us...
but not in time for the demo it seems... :(

Example for the translation related problems for the other non-Frenchies:

The Death Star is called "Йtoile Noire", which means "Black Star" (OT: btw. in Babylon 5 series, this is the name of the Minbari vessel that gets destroyed by Sheridan during the Earth-Minbari war ;) )
There are many more such differences... i simply cannot know all of them

I have no experience doing mods or game scripting or mapping, but I am a programmer/computer scientist, nearing graduation. Especially starting next semester I'll have a fair amount of free time as I will have an easy schedule.

I know many languages (C, C++, Java, VBScript, JavaScript, .NET languages, HTML, SQL, Scheme, Prolog, ASP, JSP, etc.) and have seen many more (Haskell, Visual Basic, VBA, XML, batch files, etc.). Our program emphasises the ability to quickily learn and become productive in languages and environments we've never seen before, so chances are I could quickly pick up whatever scripting abilities are needed.

I have experience with many different paradigms of programming including procedural, object-oriented, aspect-oriented, functional, web-layout, logical, scripting, etc.

I also have some ENTRY-LEVEL experience in Artificial Intelligence programming. Next semester I will be taking a graphics programming course. The final project for that is writing from scratch the graphics/rendering portion of the Quake 3 engine.

If you need anyone to do programming or scripting, I could probably help out.

As far as time comittment, I could dedicate say 6-7 hours per week, starting in early January.

E-mail is schwarjd [at] uwec.edu if you're interested.

I always wondered about two things before I thought about joining the mod . .

Where are decent resources to learn ICARUS?

Do you have to have the original DF game to map?

I have a lot of experience in Visual Basic and some in C++ and Java. I got some mapping done a while back for a small JO mod. . .

I sent a heartful Email to The_one. I am interested in becoming an interior design mapper on level 6 ah what the heck I'll just show you my message

Dear The_One,
I am highly interested in joining the DF JA team as an indoor mapping specialist, I am learning the basics of scripting and want to pursue a career in level design. I have the greatest of ambition and an entire clan of some of the nicest people rooting for me. It took a lot of courage and support for me to come up and say this, but now that I am doing it I know that if I ever want to secure my dreams I must take action now. I wish to study under some of your mappers involved with this project, and also the texture designers.

I own a legal copy of Jedi Academy and Dark Forces, I play both an average of 30 hours a week. Most of my time I am with my clan buddies or playing level 6 Crix Madine's Fate of Dark Forces. That level is my favorite and I so long to create it with my own bare hands with the support of such a group. I can run both games on separate computers so I always have a reference.

I am an ambitious asset to any team with my loyaty, cooperation, and level-headedness. I understand if you don't want to accept me to your team, for any reason at all. This just means alot to me. I remember when I was 10 I dreamed of that very stage in three dimensions enhanced, but now that I can; I never had the courage to put my thoughts into brushes and patches. Every night I don't think about anything else but being part of this team. If I don't make it I will move along and publish my own copy of the level as a FFA, most likely though I will just give up.
So please I am begging to you and your team, let me be a part of this so I may write my name upon the jagged rock floor of the imperial detention centers foyer.

A good move is to actually look at how Raven did it, just find an instance where what you want to do happens in the official levels and extract the associated scripts and bsp file. You can decompile the bsp to extract the map file, using the q3map2, and take a look at the entity work. Then theres the scripts themselves which use these entities. I reckon this, plus getting to know scripting, is the best way to learn.

Long time, no posts...

Okay, I thought I'd give this a shot. I'm currently working as a texture artist/mapper/whatever else on the DF2 Mod team but I have a lot of free time and good time management skills so I could probably handle working on another map or maps. I'm currently working on "The Double Cross" and in only a week I've 100% completed 5 rooms and, just yesterday, started mapping a sixth and I'm almost done with that, too! I currenlty, don't have a very extensive knowledge of scripting events but I tend to learn pretty fast when I have to and I'm sure I can adapt. Now, I know working on two mod teams can be a pretty extensive task and if y'all think this is going to be a problem, just let me know. But I realize that you guys have a shortage of mappers so I'd be more than willing to help, since this mod is really one of the best I've ever played. In fact, before I joined DF2 I was actually considering applying as a mapper on your team, but felt a little intimidated because of the incredible quality of the demo maps.

Let me know, one way or the other, if you'd like me to help out or not.

Well, these shots i know already. Really nice.
But... they are only smaller parts, and i guess from just one and only the same map?
Small maps are much easier to make lovely detailed than large maps as we intend to have in this mod.
Ask Salv, FatSpider and Chrustec... they can tell you much of the issues there...

Anyway, if BabySpinach is really willing to work for us, he is welcome,
but we need more than a bunch of nice screenshots and a few words ;)

I would love to help with doing trailers and stuff for the JKDF2 Mod and help be an adviser to the mod since I have been an active member of the jk series since JKDF2 released. I do movies mostly now here in JA. I am over Jedi-Outcast Movies. I have put out the series JA: Clone Wars and I work with SJC doing video projects for his maps and stuff. I hope I can be some help to you, since I could be a great asset to the team and remember the "golden years" so greatly.

If I weren't heading up my own mod, I'd try to help out in some way too. I know Icarus/behaved pretty well. I'm also getting acqainted with OJP too.

I want to do whatever it takes to allow this mod to be completed. You've come too far to just let it die. I think everyone here can agree that they'd love to see this mod run through to completion. LONG LIVE DFMOD!!!
