[off topic]
hey all, thanks to all your help my map is becoming real and complete (not just some small duel map) keep up the good work

[on topic]
hey all, when i play my map i notice 3 areas that have video lagging.
1) one is where the base of a curved tunnel that fits over a "c" shaped ramp i have made. (the curved tunnel is an end cap turned on its side, and the curved ramp is a simple patch mesh that is 256 units wide at the top, and 512 unites wide at the bottum and the ramp's hight (not thickness) is 256 units.

2) two is on the base of a pillar i have made. the base of the pillar is cylinder that looks like a cone without its top.

3) three is on a sphere i have made. the sphere is made of 8 bevels and is textured with waterfall shader. the waterfall shader is the actually part that lags.

**in (1) and (2) the video lag only ocurs when im far away and loking at the object in question. in (3) the video lags occurs all the time.

PLEASE HELP ME, LEAVE NOTHING OUT, GIMME ALL YOUR SUGGESTIONS.
and sry for the long long description

ok maybe i wrote too long a question before. let me reword it.

QUESTION:
why is it that (when playing my map) when i back up away from a patch that i made, the patch starts to move around out of place???

NOTE:
this doesnt happen to all of my patches just some of them.

a curve's geometry changes as you move away from it to improve performance so an 8 sided curve cylinder might become 6 sided as you move away. because you cant really tell from far away. you can add -patchmeta to your bsp compile line to make patches the same shape all the time.

i figured that the computer was changing the number of sides to adjust to distance, but thank you so very much for helping me with how to eliminate this problem.

one more thing

besides patchmeta, will the bsp-final do the same as patchmeta????

No, you have to add -patchmeta in manually....but you shouldn't unless you really need it. Most of the time it should go unnoticed.

i tried looking for patchmeta under the bsp file menu and i couldnt find it.
ASSUMING i want to test it just to SEE if i like it or not and if it does more good than bad......
how do i do patchmeta?

I you understand the command prompt, use that (cmd in Windows XP/2003. command in earlier Windows).

If you don't, Q3Map2Toolz, Google for that.
