Could anyone tell me what the system/Terrain texture actually does please??
:D
Allows you to make some really nice looking terrain by blending textures together and smoothing it all out.
Kinda like this (

The bitch is I don't have a link to a tutorial on it, try searching on the forums and you may get lucky.

I think I'm going to post that on map-review, since I keep referring people to it...
Gah, don't link people to that thread any more... I took those images down, since I redid that tutorial for map-review. I'm in the process of getting Kengo to put it up right now...
The templates link appears dead.
Yay, it's been modernized! Excellent!
sorry, there was a typo in the templates link. It's fixed now.
Wow - thanks a lot for the quick and detailed response guys!!
:D
I just thought I would add a little something here. Yes....not all maps are exactly square so how do I get my Easy-gen map file into my map now? My map is kind of an 'L' shape.
The way I do it is to make seperate terrain maps for each section of my map. So I pick the biggest spots in my map. Lets say I have only 2 areas in which I can put my terrain in. So I make 2 terrain maps to go into each area. Now how do I fit them in? SCALE key. You can use the SCALE key to make your map fit. Experiment a little bit. Scale in all 3 directions or just one or two. I usually select my WHOLE terrain by completely surrounding the whole map with one single brush and then selection menu / select / select inside. Then scale and move it where you wish.
I could also CLONE the terrain then rotate it and maybe cut the bottom off a little for different elevation instead of making 2 Easy-Gen maps.
Let me know if I don't know what the hell I'm talking about or at the very least post an easier way if there is one...thanks guys.
Bah..this is my first REAL use of Easygen in a map and it shows up transparent....LOL. Oh..it's solid but I can see through it!! Any ideas? This is for a M/P JK2 map BTW...but I do plan on doing the same map in JA.
Is it because I don't know how to use the other compiler? (which I don't. I know how to add command lines but they don't work..
if it is tranaparent it is probable because the terrain you chose to put on there is not working, you will still have to texture it as far as i know

What do you mean by the terrain is not working?:biggs:
the textures are not loading
Look in the console just after the map loads, you'll see the errors.

Is there anyway to fix them?
Yeah, put the correct textures in your pk3.
allright i have been using GtkRadient would that tutorial work for that on the terrain texture. Also how many dang map editors are out there for jedi academy. If you know of some what is the link, also what is the link to Easy-gen.
Well thx if you can help
Just a quick question about Easgen, I'm using it right now to make a rendition of the Dune Sea on Tatooine, and I want to make the entire terrain in one chunk. I have a terrain template that is about 1800X1850 pixels and when i load it, it takes about an hour for radiant to open it. Is there a better way to make my terrain (I.E smaller chunks that I put together by hand?)

I'm ysing the original textures from raven and I haven't made a .PK3 yet. THX!! for the answers though!!!:D
Maybe you didn't read the tutorial... one pixel of heightmap data correspons to one brush vertex of actual terrain. 1800x1850 pixels = 1801 brushes by 1851 brushes to a side on your terrain func_group. That comes out to 3333651 brushes. That's only about three million, three hundred thousand over the limits of the Quake engine. Please take a moment and re-read the tutorial (or even read it for the first time). Maybe even read it again after that. And a third time, just for good luck. Read every word. At least once. Don't just look at the pictures.
lol, i've read, re-read and printed out the tutorial, sorry i missed that, english isnt my mother tung.:)
