Ok, this is just an experiment:-

I wanna show of hands here so we can see where the majority of peoples political stand is.

Simply vote thus:-

Fascist / Nationalist:- Vote - Far right
Republican/ Conservative :- Vote - Right wing
Democrat / Liberal :- Vote - Center
Socialist / Labour:- Vote - Left Wing
Communist :- Vote - Extreme Left

I try to stand in the center.

One cannot subscribe blindly to the platform of a single party just becuase there is one or two issues that you agree strongly with. I know many Republicans who do just that about issues such as abortion or gun ownership.

One has to look at the information critically and decide on a case by case basis about each issue.

I was quite critical of the Clinton administration about many points, which might be hard for some here to realize since they've read my critiques on the Bush Admin.

I suppose most Americans (as well as those in other nations) rarely have the time to research each issue, but it pays to look at some of the top, most current ones with as much scrutiny and questioning as possible.

Then lean left or right as needed.

One interesting point that a dear and wise friend once put to me was this:-

If you have a right wing government for too long then you need to get the left wing in power to balance things, and if you have a left wing government for to long then a right wing government can bring things into balance.

Basically if you go too far down one road its hard to come back to the middle.

Personally i would say that most of my views are extremely left wing bordering on communism, i believe in equality at EVERY level.

I personally find the right wing view of every man for them self to be distasteful at best, it just seems logical that in a civilised world that those in society that are struggling the most should indeed get more help than those that are rich and powerful. Ambiguous? yes, but none the less its the way i feel. Under a right wing government i find that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer and i will have no part in electing a right wing government that has the interests of the few at heart.

Another interesting point that i would like to raise is that the democrats in the states are far more closely aligned to the UK's conservative party rather than the liberal/center as you would think, and that the republicans are broadly similar to our BNP. I think that the true left wing side of politics is woefully neglected in the u.s.

I'm not just a casual left wing so i voted extreme left wing. But not quite comunist. Communism is a failed attempt at utopia. Its corrupted just like every other form of government.

I'm optimisic however that hopefully a new form of government will happen. What it will be is still a mistery and most liekly stay like that for a long time. In the mean time I think we need to improve world wide the social values... actually to be quite honest. The more I think about it the more I think StarTrek got it right. The views of Earth in that series is amazingly close to Utopia, but it actually sounds possible.

I'm not too fond of the right wing governments because they tend to cut too much money from health, education and other important social spendings and dish it out into military, economic and ignore flatout international politics.

I'm an absolute nihilist, for therein lies true balance and freedom.

I must admit that i've often thought the same thing, albeit fictional the star trek take on things is really quite interesting. The thing that really appeals to me is that money is abolished. Now that would solve a lot of problems in my view. OK so in this day and age its just not gonna be possible, but why should we not be aspiring to a utopian society free form greed and materialism.

While chatting to a good mate from LF we were talking about war and my good buddy says that war is inevitable in that man is a destructive force and its in our nature. This i understand and accept, but i refuse to be resigned to the fact. things can always be improved and if the will is strong enough then man can develop beyond the limits we are imposing upon ourself.

The way i see it is that governments place too much importance on money, in the hope that it can solve all the worlds problems and the simple truth is that money when used corrcetly can be a great force for good, but when used with malice and lack of forethought it is a danger. Money is also a great incentive for the doing of injustice and other evil things.

Had you, I would not have selected it, for I do not know if we're fortunate enough to be doomed for non-existence. It is but my ardent hope.

if you think all the politicians are corrupt then dont NOT vote, spoil your ballot paper to show that you object.

In fact, to show your disaproval. Don't vote for Republican or Democrate. There is allways a small timer unknown guy who runs for Presidency in the States. Vote for that name you do not recognize. It will show the major political parties the nation's unhappiness.

Thats why I'm happy in Canada we have 5 different political parties (only 4 if you live outside of Quйbec). The only "problem" people seem to have with it is that people overwhelmingly vote for Liberal Party. Why? Most wish that the Canadian Alliance will never see a day in majority power, so they vote for the strongest contestant.

I chose center. I have voted republican, democrat and independent. I am too much of an individual to subscribe completely to someone elses ideas.
Although 90% of the people who generally know me might think I am far left.

I do understand (although do not participate in it) the apathy felt by alot of people especially younger people. Our system has been twisted and usurped by the powerful. The "EVERY VOTE COUNTS" idea doesn't mean as much anymore.

Agreed. I think part of the reason why so few in the states vote is they're told to vote by so many. So they don't, like a child who doesn't want to eat healthy food.

cuba isn't a socialist society it's a totalianary dictatorship. get it right people.

I believe that's the reason why you should have more than two parties.

Let's say you're a liberal and you want to support family values. Now, the only party supporting family values is the republican one. What do you do?

If there were more parties, then maybe one of the liberal parties would fight to keep the family united, while the other would not. Thus, both liberals who care for and don't care for family unity as a cause can vote liberal.

As I understood it, and correct me if I'm wrong, it can't work that way in the US, thanks to the two-way party system.

Sadly, nowadays, it's more a question of trying to vote for someone who has a chance of beating the one you definately do not want in office. As an example, I know many Americans who're going to vote for the strongest democrat available, simply to get rid of Bush in 2004. Voting Libertarian or Green simply won't cut it, as they haven't got a snowball's chance in hell of topping Bush.

On the other hand, if Lieberman is going to be the presidential candidate for the Democrats in 2004, they're not going to vote Democrat at all - something about that particular guy freaks them out, apparently :confused:


And as for my political stance, I think I'd better say left, though I honestly am not sure. I don't know enough about politics to really say I know what's best for a country - hell, maybe those evil right wing "fascists" are right in prioritizing business in favour of social security, so more jobs could be created. I don't know.

I voted Right-Wing. It really doesn't matter much for me, since I can't vote yet, but.....:o
