There is a missing SAGA file

Here's the solution.

On my download server there is now a folder called ui. Inside this is another folder call jk2mp and inside this is a missing file called gameinfo.txt.
1: Copy the whole thing (i.e. the ui folder) to your the root of your C: drive. (this is important)
2: Open the anchorheadnew.pk3 file with winzip
3: Click the ADD icon a the top and select the gaminfo.txt file - make certain the save full path info check box is ticked.
4: Close the archive and all should be well!

Let me know if this works there is an alternative but it means screwing with the assets.pk3 files.

There is a file called base.pk3 on ther server.
Simply place that inside your JK2 base folder.
And SAGA should now work!

Excellent plan,

I'd host it but I'm on a wimpy 56K dialup so not really suited to running a server.

This is also the reason I listed all the testers, so you guys cab hook up and arrange this sort of thing.

Let me know how it goes!

Just wondering...
Do bots work correctly in the SAGA game mode?
Do they know what to do?

Yes, I believe they do!

QUOTE:

The interesting thing about this is bot behavior regarding objectives.

While you can't count on a bot to do something like, say, push a button, use a particular force power on something, manipulation items properly, etc., bots are actually fairly well-done! For each objective, (if attackers is set to '1') the bot will go find what targets the objective, find what targets that, etc., until it makes a list of OBJECTIVE SOURCES. These are things like breakable items, buttons, etc., that originally trigger objectives. It then picks one of these sources and attacks toward it. (If you've ever played one of Blizzards RTS's, you know what I mean. It moves toward its objective, while attacking all enemies it comes across.) I'm not sure how intelligent this system is, as I've never tested it on a bot-mapped map before. However, at the very least, the bots will try and hold the area AROUND the objective until someone bright enough to complete it comes along.

If attackers is 0, the bots on your team show yet another spurt of intelligence. They do what they did if attackers was 1, except for the OTHER TEAM'S OBJECTIVES. Except instead of making an effort to complete the objective, they just try and keep the enemy away from the objective source. Pretty smart, eh?

I managed to get the red flag to near the blue base and I could swear one of the bots on my team kinda escorted me back the rest of the way to the blue flag...or he was just hoping I'd die and he could get an easy cap! Either way, very realistic behavoir :)

Yes it's funny, I was playing SAGA today and since the bots for both teams are set to defend, I keep being killed by a Darth Vader who was lurking in the most unexpected places!

Hi Guys,

I've placed an updated Botroute file on the server.
Download it and replace the one in the pk3 file. (Be sure to make certain it goes in the right place i.e. botroutes/anchorheadnew.wnt)

I tested it a bit and the bots seem to shoot at you from all directions now!!!

I hope to have a map update for you later in the week to address the issues you have raised so far.

Hey all, I might be able to host this afternoon around 5:30 pst. Unfortunately I'm at work right now and I don't know my ip offhand. I also have to find out (when I get home) if my wife and son have other plans for me :)

Anyway, I'll say tentatively that I'll host and I'll post on here around 5:15 or so and let you all know. I also have icq.

Yeah...
I'm on PST time so that's GMT minus 8hrs and I think SunBurn is Eastern time so I think that's GMT - 5hrs???
Not sure where everyone else is located,
So co-ordinating may be a problem.

Sigh!

No, actually I'm also on PST (pacific standard time) up in Seattle WA area. So Monsoontide and I should be on the same time. One of the other beta testers (mariners2001) is also PST and I think is also up here in the Seattle area.

Anyways, last night I was having problems with being able to join games due to a ui/menus.txt error I kept getting whenever I tried to join a game. So I ended up reinstalling jedioutcast last night and I have to go back and get it all working again. So I don't think I'll be able to host tonight. It's looking like Friday night (probably late like around 11pm pst) would be a good time. I'll let you all know, and if that time doesn't work, then maybe we can all coordinate some time over the weekend. Talk with you all soon,

I used to live in Auckland :)

From the point of view of us Europeans maybe later is actually better, as 11pm pst is actually 7am GMT I think, so we'd just have to get up early instead of staying up all night

With the bot routes having been improved and updated though, perhaps having a big online trial of the map with people isn't really so neccesary, but it would still be fun :D

I wonder if it'd be possible to get a beta of this, as I'm supremely interested in the SAGA gametype, at the very least from a mapping standpoint.. would that be possible?

Specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2000+
512mb DDR RAM
GeForce 3
Cable (i.e., 20mb = no problem)

I'm also a mapper, so, I could hopefully both learn from this and help you out (in a testing format) with the nitpicky little things that I (from experience) really despise doing. (I shall destroy thee, hint brushes..)

I really hope that the SAGA gametype evolves into a fullscale mod-type..thing.. as it sounds extremely interesting.

If you so desire, send the file to gonk@manaforge.com (as gonk@swgalaxies.net isn't working currently :()
