K I feel I must start a WIP thread for this map.

Why? This will be my last map for JK2 ever. I know I know... too many people have already left and yes I'm leaving too. UT2003 is just too much for me to pass up.

In the time that I have mapped for JK2, I haven't ever posted any wip threads really, save for one that died easily when i did rave house. So.... gonna make one here.

This map is called Volrath's Lair. I have just started working on two - three nights ago. The theme of the map is a RATS style CTF/FFA/Team FFA/Holocron FFA/Jedi Master map of my bedroom. Yes. You heard me. My bedroom. :p

Anyways, here are some nice in editor alpha screenies. Enjoy!

DARNIT!!! i started a rats map of my room too, your a bit farther than me case i dont work on it much. i guess well have to see which of ours is better, although im not gonnahave much time to work on it. yours is looking good but i think that your in desperate need of a new wallpaper for your room (or at least change it in your map). other than that make sure to add stuff like mouse holes. good lick with your map

Um... I haven't even gotten to texturing yet. That's later.

the ctf version is really gonna be neat. And i am planning on adding so many farking easter eggs to this map it's not funny... and I don't have any mouse holes in my room... so i may not add that.. I'm trying to keep to scale and keep accurate. The lights have been the hardest thing to build as of yet. The tv was pretty easy. But that's gotta be moved caddy corner in the corner where the closet doors are (i don't much use the other door in my closet.) so I'm freaked what's gonna happen when i rotate the whole thing when it's done. suffice to say i am not using free rotate. arbitrary rotation for me. anyone know of any i way i'll be able to to rotate that and not have it be deformed? i'm hoping arbitrary will stop it from being deformed to the point where it's useless.

Yes I'm gonna be mapping for it. I might even convert this current map into a UT2k3 map given the time just to have it in another engine too. :D

The TV is, I think a 30 incher. I can't quite remember. In those shots it would be about 600 inches (30 in x 20 scale). :D

K so I promised more screenies so here you are:

Let me tell you HOW lucky I was to not get very much deformation when I rotated the tv stand. I was freaked about that. It ended up working with very little deformation and even then it was nothing that couldn't be fixed w/o a little bit of work. Enjoy the screens!

Are you going to texture those CDs or DVDs in alpha9 so that they would have their real covers (or such covers as you would like people to think you have in your possession, not that I'd suspect anything...).

Yeah I'm gonna texture em. And no I don't own any porn dvds you freak! :p j/k on the freak part.

Nah, the movies are more along the line of:

Matrix
Austin Powers 2
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Dogma
Dazed and Confused
End of Days
Tomb Raider
Spaceballs
and Resident Evil

(just in case anyone really gave a damn!) :p :p

Now, I must say that computer looks impressive. It shows how you can make simple, yet elegant and realistic looking designs with steady hand and stedier intention. A truly timeless piece of art.

You are going to have some very nice vertice drawing and dragging when you connect your computer properly with all those pesky cables you must have to keep the map as realistic as it is now. And don't forget there's ALWAYS tiny text on the cables telling you the name of some never-heard-of company that made them.

This is an official friendly map making warning. Your map is too good please change it immediately. Other maps of similar types look terrible when compared to yours. Please change this immediately. Take steps to make your make suck. It is in the best interest of the community that you do so or your map will inevitably be so much beter than any other map of the same type. This was only a warning.

Sorry pal.

Not gonna happen. My map will be released.

Plus, no one has ever made a GOOD rats map yet, so I'm gonna make the best one I guess then. :D :D :D

So yes it's getting made and your warning can stay out of my thread please.

I think a mouse hole would be a fun addition to the easter eggs. You can position it in some hard to reach place behind the computer or something, and inside is a big, nasty weapons cache.

Ooh! There should be a way to get inside the computer! Like have a little level warp right in front of the audio output jack, and when you run into it, you reappear in a big, impressive, sort of TRON-like area! Then you can have a big door shaped like a giant audio output jack with an EXIT sign over it.

Okay... that might be a little too much, but just consider it. I still stand by my mouse hole idea.

How about if you step on the keyboard it will type a random phrase, like "PHEAR TEH PORK," or "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US," or "YOU ARE AN IDIOT."

Or how about you can take cover in various objects... like shoes!

Or you could ignore these suggestions entirely because they would be bizzarely difficult. Either way, the maps gonna be SHWEET!

Also, when you say you're going to move on to UT3, do you mean Unreal Tournament, or that Unreal Championship that's coming out for Xbox Live this October? (don't miss it!)

From my understanding, Volrath has a little ace up his sleeve for the computer and what he plans to do with it, but I think he would like to have more of the honor to do it, since its his map. what a way to go out. Making the best Rats map in jedi outcast before moving on to UT 2k3.

And about the size, its not always the size thats the problem, if you can get the light under control, least thats my understanding, because I came across some fairly good sized maps, and they ran 70-100 on my machine just fine. but don't get me wrong, Episode 1 from LivingDeadJedi only runs 14-24 on the same machine so, its not like I have a beefed up machine, least not yet anyway. And plus knowing some tricks like hint brushes, etc. But dont get me wrong, I am the last person on this earth to make a large map.. if it was up to me, i would make a cube, put some lights here and there, and call it Night with a skybox and have people duke it out..!

wow your map is coming along very well. when do you think it will be done? also what kinda objects are left in your room?

ive decided that i might scrap my rats map (you know that i was just kidding about that warning thing right?). id rather download your than mine lol. anyway if i pick it up again do you have any tips?

well... i still have the rest of the computer desk, the stand next to it, and my bed. and then the detailing.

as for tips on rats maps: i've been measuring a lot to keep it to scale correctly. that's a good thing to do. and don't make it too big.

other than that, rats maps are supposed to have fun little extras, etc.
