The movement of air units is kinda hard to imagine in this engine - don't you think it's gonna look a bit screwy? I'd love to think this game is going to be great but I see so many possible problems - not least I'm getting the impression that maybe the development is a little rushed (I could be wrong). Unit balance is another area I'm really concerned about - it will be so hard for the developers to get that right.
As I say I'm really hoping for great things - just wouldn't be at all surprised at big dissapointment. BTW I spoke to reviewer who's actually played/seen the alpha (or beta) - he thinks they've got a LOT of work to do if it's going to be a polished product (apparently looks kinda messy + animation is very poor in places) - here's hoping....
i have seen the air units move in the videos i have downloaded, they look as good as any other game! the only thing i dont like is that i dont think they land on the ground at all they just hover
i saw an OLD E3 GB movie thing and it had x wings attacking a building. the x wings flew to the building, stopped and then attacked it while hovering in one place. it looked as if air units dont cycle around the building like in C&C games.
Yeah they say the air units will kinda be like in SC they hover all the time and don't move much when they attack. But the reviewer that you talked to selbi was probably one that had reviewed it in pre-alpha stage when the unit sizes were screwy and it didn't look very good, but know they've changed it a lot and everything looks good and to scale. Also they already have the unit balance figured out so you shouldn't have to worry about that.
well at least it will be better than Total Anhiliation where the air units make passes when they attack
Have you read any of the latest reviews on the game? Most say if not all say GB will be a very good game.
back to the aircraft..
i think the fighters should hover, like SC, but the bombers should make passes like in C&C TS.
Welcome to the boards selbi.
We haven spoken (not personally) with the director of BattleGrounds, and he says they've worked hard on the aircraft, and they will hover. It really is more effective if they stand still while shooting lasers. They don't waste time on turning around while getting shot at. As for the bombers, they could go either way, but they will hover and look fine nevertheless. As for their flight, even in the earliest video, the flight was smooth and steady. You really don't have to worry about problems.
Yeah so we have nothing to worry about going wrong in GB.
u say that now but what if the game is a big bust and besides a lot of directors talk good things about the game but it is really bullcrap although I do hope for a good game
the only thing disapointing about the aircraft movement is that they don't "strife" when attacking buildings ala total annialation......to me this is a real bummer.....oh well....there is always hope for a mod!

You mean strafe?
Anyways, that would be cool for the bombers, but the fighter it would be impracticle because their shots don't do alot of damage, so they'd just waste time having to keep flying around in circles while they get shot up.
Hmmm, My preference would probably be for a RA2 aircraft situation - the planes and helicopters worked/moved just as you'd expect them to. I found the Starcraft system rather lacking - but at least we had no idea how those aircraft were supposed to move. In GB we have all seen Ties, Snowspeeder, etc move and it may be a little strange to see a Tie hovering slowly in a straight line then stopping mid-air to fire on a target. I think I would have prefered only to have a couple of aircraft available - those which would suit ground combat.
