What is the BEST mystery game out there? That is, one with a lot of thinking and putting clues together and deductive reasoning and elimination. Not just finding keys and using items together. And not just Clue.

You could try Discworld Noir, but it ahs some compatibility issues. I'd still recommend it, though :).

May I recommend Pleughburgh: Dark Ages (http://gaspop.com/index.html?darkages). It's an amateur game, but it's pretty damn detectivy (You play a detective), rather difficult, and with multiple endings. Free, too.

Oh, yes, of course. Pleurbergh is probably the best adventure game I've ever played, period.

well what about the games that actually sound like a detective game like the "cameron files" or "lost files of sherlock holmes"?
