MP rBots is a hell of a lot of fun!
I and a friend of mine tried it across the zone a couple of weeks ago, and I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. (We were using rBots Alpha .10, and since then, version .11 has been released).
I've tested version .11, and the AI has improved even more.
The bots still seem to stand around when they're low on health, and shots from other bots tend not to affect them very much, but I'm sure Raynar (rBots' creator) will be able to find a way around this.
I'm also helping him by creating voice files for each Bot (Sariss, Yun and Boba Fett), so soon you should hear them greet, taunt and congratualte you during the game!

I'm not so concerned with voice files or other extras. I'd rather they can use the Force and saber, and actually fight well.

In other words, I think that you guys should focus on getting the bots to behave like humans first, before you go adding icing on the cake.

That's just my opinion, I don't mean to sound bossy. Obviously it's not my project, so you can just take what I say with a grain of salt if you want to. ; )

I can't wait for the day when we can have bots in ANY mp level, and lots of them too.

I dream of bots in MOTS, personalities, and CTF, drool! A long way off, I'm sure...

Perhaps, and maybe I'm just dreaming, heck I don't have half the cog skills Raynar must have!... ; )

But how about this: a Kicker Helper type of program that runs in the background. Only the host can use it, and he can click a button to spawn a bot (of your choice) and remove bots, just like you'd kick players. You could also rename them on the fly.

Hey, you could have 32 bots in a game, maybe give them different skins too.

They could have random things they "type" to you when they get a kill or die. That would be cool. Voice files seem a bit much. But then again, I'm not working on the project, so what do I know? ; )

The other thing is that currently, the bots aren't synched for MP yet, so unless you're on a LAN, it's not going to work quite right with other humans. Still, pretty cool.

Perhaps Raynar should swap notes with Nightmare, the guy who was doing the Synched AI mods (which eventually became JK coop)?

Does the current version work on MOTS as well, or just JK? If not, that's something I'd like to see, as I don't have JK or a LAN.

Hang on, dont you need JK for MotS to work...

Kurgan: I'm inclined to agree - I think voice files are a little too much, but it was Raynars idea, I merely offered to help.
Maybe you should put your suggestion to him - it'd also mean I dont have to imitate Sariss (something I'm not looking forward to doing! http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/smile.gif)
I'll put it to him too - after all, the alpha test version is already 1.35mb, and with voice files could up it to at least 3mb...

That's exactly the same thing a friend said when he gave me MOTS for christmas. I don't have JK, and I want to know if you can run the RBots, not MOTS.

No, MotS uses a different system of files to JK, and so things are not instantly compatible between the two.

It could eventually be ported over.

But yeah. Hey, the voice files are just icing on the cake. The real thing people are looking forward to is getting the chance to play with bots in JK. Something that we could do in Doom, Half-Life, Quake2, Unreal, UT, etc for some time.

Saber fighting/force using bots that are smart, now that is something to be proud of. And synched for MP? Great! The rest can come later.

But hey, it's Raynar's project. If he wants to do that, it's up to him. Just letting you know what I think.

As to file size, I wouldn't worry. If you get BFP2 and BFP2.1 that's 9 megs! (zipped). The MOTS demo was something in the neighborhood of 40 megs.

Sure it might take a bit for a modem user to download, but isn't it worth it in the end?

I guess so, Kurgan.
I stuck out the long download time for BFP2 and 2.1, and I've not regretted it.

It would seem the general trend is for simple text messages from Bots rather than audio, so I'll 'pester' Raynar about it.

Actually all MOTS requires is a one time check for the JK CD #2, when you install it. That's it.

So in theory, you could borrow a friend's cd #2 and never have JK.

However, if you like MOTS, you might as well JK, it's the same type of game, and it's alot of fun. Most would agree that JK is superier in the SP department (but in MP, MOTS is king).

JK has alot more mods out for it too, but that's mainly because more people had JK and it has been out a bit longer.

Nowadays you can get both games packaged together for fairly cheap. Last I saw it was $20 for both at this store near where I live.

I tend to agree with Kurgan, the bots need to be able to use force powers and the saber. Plus they need to be listed on the score screen.

Forget about voices. I've never seen bots in any game with voices. Just text messages. But as stated before, that stuff is just the icing on the cake.
