PSX Cutscenes Changed?

I just remembered something I remember seeing a long time ago (no pun intended!)

In an advert for TPM on the PlayStation, the cutscenes looked like they were done using the characters that you move, unlike the PC where they were good-quality FMV sequences.

Then when I got the game, the cutscenes were like on the PC. So is it just me, or did LucasArts change something at the last moment?

I don't know But I thought that the cut scenes looked damn good for the PS they kind of craped out the closer you got to the end of the game though. The ones in JPB were worse than TPM for.

Yeah, the cutscenes with the characters' faces didn't look as good as the ships. But still pretty good for the PS.

But the best cutscenes in a PS game I've seen so far (in my opinion) were those in Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee. Those were very realistic. And that was over 3 years ago, so why can't LucasArts do better?

Just like on TPM (the movie).
Just before the trailer ends a STAP comes towards the screen and fires, check it out on ES1 Insider's Guide.

On the video it does not appear. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/confused.gif)

Yes it does, when the STAPs chase Obi-Wan through the forest. Check it again.

I don't know about the PSX, but in the PC version, it uses the models you control in the game, so they are "in game" cutscenes in the true sense.

You mean the one's at the beginning of most levels? I meant the ones like the Podrace Arena intro and the End movie.

That was probably my fault for not being clear enough. http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/redface.gif) FMVs are the 3D clips, and the cutscenes are parts where the game takes over and moves the character. What I meant was that the FMVs on the trailer looked like cutscenes. Does that make sense?

And you're saying that the ones in the PSX and PC versions are different?

Which advert are you referring to? There was only one television commercial that advertised both the PC and PSX versions. It was always the plan that the PC and PSX versions would use the same FMV cutscenes, and as I recall, the TV commercial had a mixture of in-game footage and FMV sequences.

The only commercial I saw (and I only saw it once) was the one where the kid is at school and he pulls a Jedi Mind Trick on the bully (yes!).

I don't even recall what scenes of footage they showed afterward. I think they were in-game, but I just remember the little skit beforehand.

No, the cutscenes are the same in the final game, but in an ad, they looked different.

I think the commercial you've all seen was only shown in the US. The UK may have had a different one, as I don't remember any mind trick.

It may have been all un-finished footage, rushed for the trailer.

<font face="BernardMod BT"><font color="green1">Kurgan, the one they showed in that commercial was a lightsaber duel. I think it was of Qui-Gon fighting Maul (from when Obi-Wan walks under the walkway the two are fighting on). That was a funny commercial.

Well I guess I missed it then.

So what you're saying is that in a commercial, they showed what was supposed to be game footage or cutscenes, which looked different than in the actual game...?

That makes sense.

Nope, not there. Jar Jar goes 'Oh no!' as Qui-Gon egnites his Lightsaber and blasts the STAP. This is all in one scene, although I do have the Pan 'n' Scan version.

...and I'm back.

Yup, it's there all right. Qui-Gon ignites his Saber, Jar Jar ducks, Qui-Gon deflects a bolt back at the STAP, and it explodes. Cut to scene of STAP firing at camera. Qui-Gon deflects that shot, and the STAP explodes, sending the droid falling down the hill.

Proof enough?
