I think Lusaarts has hit the bottom. I have to say, they've putm pout some, ahem, lowere quality games lately(knock on wood, Obi-Wan is our saving grace). And now, Demolition? They've gotten to the point where now they jusy make games and slap the Star Wars label on them. I'm sure this game has nothing to do with the Star Wars story, and it's just a game that could easily have the Dukes of Hazard name. Now, I did see other announcements on new games, and a space sim(yipee!), so there could be hope. This is a console game I'm talking about, so it has some excuse. I don't want to sound negatice, but this game just seems dumb, and could be replaced. It gives Star Wars a cheesy name when it comes to games. That was my first impression, if anybody thinks otherwise and wants to bash me, feel free.

I must agree with you on this one. I just got through reading the info on the game from PS Nation and I have to say that I was not impressed at all. I mean I really looked forward to JPB and was not disapointed but this new game sounds like a real stinker. I personally hate those types of games(twisted metal and vigilante 8) They are terrible. Lucas must have someone else running the game department while he is locked in his office with the no calls sign on his door. No bashing from me man. You said it straight out.

unless one escaped...

(ps. it does sound terrible. rancor with cannons??? for pete's sake...)

I agree, this game sounds totally retarded. It's like some alternate Star Wars universe, or some freaky dream Star Wars land where all these vehicles from different eras are all brought together to race in some crazy combat race.

Did you see that cheesy screenshot of Luke's landspeeder shooting a laser beam out of its nose? Gawd, I about laughed my ass off! How stupid.

I mean, I know all the Star Trek games are typically bad, but can you imagine this: that Paramount would allow someone to make a game with all the space ships from the Star Trek universe, and they were all driving around some planet in some stupid combat race? It's just so absurd I can't help but laugh.

It sounds like someone at LucasArts went on a bad vision quest when the idea for this game was conjured up.

Ive always defended Lucasarts and thought critics gave them a raw deal but with a game like "Demolition" its hard to defend them.

I'm glad that loyal Star Wars fans have responded to me. This game seems to far fetched, Star Wars should be Star Wars, not some cheesy game with Star Wars on it, like I already said. I was reminded of the "rancor with blasters" that was said to be in the game. I almost cried when I saw this. Alec Guiness would be ashamed. What's next, a sports game starring Jar Jar?

This reminds me of those ewok movies they try to push on us as Star Wars product.

This does not bode well for the New Republic.

It seems Lucasarts is on something of a downward spiral...and I hope it doesn't affect Obi-Wan. They used to care about the quality of their games, but now all they seem to be doing is *cashing in* on the Star Wars franchise with whatever execrable idea happens along.

In some other threads on this site, a bunch of us gamers came up with better ideas for Star Wars games including...

1. A game about bounty hunters
2. A game about rebel commandos.

Instead of taking some original ideas, well-suited to the Star Wars universe, they take a tried-and-tested (and done-to-death) demolition derby formula and dress it up with lasers and hover-tanks, set in a time warp (and time travel has NEVER featured in Star Wars BTW). What a wasted opportunity.

If the focus (as some have suggested of the entire game industry) is truly going to be on console games in the future, then it looks like I'll be playing Jedi Knight for the next forty years...just hope the MOD community lasts that long.

I hope their *other* releases are a LOT better than this... > http://www.jediknight.net/mboard/frown.gif)

I think a sequel to Masters of the Terras Kasi would be cool, I still play that game all the time, it never gets old.

Well, th massively multiplayer Star Wars game could also revive my faith in Lucasarts. From what I hear, the boys over at Verant have some experience and know what they're doing. Think, you could take on the bounty hunter character, and travel from planet to planet and cantina to cantina, searching for "wanted" signs on the walls and talking to people who might have gotten double crossed in Starcraft or something. This would be great. I've always dreamed of this game. The sense of independence, the mercenary for hire feel, if the developers would capture this, I'd never speak a bad word abouth the company again.

One more thing, what ever happened to XWing Alliance? Its been a while since I visited the Star Wars gaming community, and haven't heard anything. The ending to a potentially awesome game made me dizzy. Let's just hope the new movies bring new ideas and, er........Obi-Wan better be good.

I think were all basicly hoping Obi-Wan will make us forget how far LUcasarts has slipped. As for the MultiPlayer game I'm a bit skeptical about what ive heard so far.

Hey Baron,

Regarding:

...Think, you could take on the bounty hunter character, and travel from planet to planet and cantina to cantina, searching for "wanted" signs on the walls and talking to people who might have gotten double crossed in Starcraft or something...

From what we've learned of Star Wars Online so far, there are only two confirmed planets. You can't play a Jedi. You can't play an Imperial. There will be no player controlled vehicles/spacecraft, nor any space combat ala X-wing Alliance.

In short, all SWO sounds like is just EverQuest with a few Star Wars people sprinkled in.

Enjoy.

Vagabond, after hearing that, I've decided I'm just going to go take a nice big dump on Lucasart's front stoop. Also, the thing I said was just something I was thinking of, I didn't think it would be in SWO, however nice that would be. I pray for Obi-Wan everyday.
