Im just judging by X-wing alliance but im assuming that it will be good for killing other air units but be terribable for killing anything on the ground?

That's what I heard! A-wings rule the skies but suck the ground.

I haven't used the A-Wing much. However, it's very fast and can take out other air units fast. But yes, weak against anything on the ground. Good for supporting your bombers and Air cruiser

The A-Wings' stats are REALLY WEAK so I'm guessing it's an ultra-fast scout. With a 2 attack and 15 HP, there's not much else you're going to be able to do with it except sniping workers unless it has huge advantages against certain types of enemies.

But if you notice, they also have superior range to normal fighters. This could make them especially useful for taking them out if massed.

Looking at the new stats that have been posted I agree with duder on the range factor....throw in their speed and a wave of them can probably be very useful and interesting to use in both air defense and quickly striking incoming enemy bombers and cruisers....
Even if they are wiped out by enemy fighters defending the cruisers it would be worth it to counter the damage cruisers can do....

Ahhh, looks like another reason I cant wait to get my hands on the game and try things out....

People, those stats don't show the bonus, they'll surely have a good bonus against fighters and bombers.

The thing I dont' really like is if the Rebels get to have two unique units, how is that made up for by way of balancing the other civilizations?

the balance of power will not be changed, IMO.

If you noticed, the snowspeeder was hard to implement into someone's army, due to its lack of armor to anti air, and it will now be harder for it to kill mechs with anti air at-at's. The A-wing, also, is a small compliment to the RA's AF.

The AT-AT's, although can fire at air units, isnt very accurate - so it will take a few shots to hit its target.

Like I have said before, the A-Wing is very quick, if not the fastest moving fighter and with a range a little better than normal fighters. The fact it is cheap, makes it a great scout or escort fighter for the Air Cruiser.

Hey Auto, remember Confids have those craetures as more UUs and no-one has a probe droid units like the Imps have.

Speaking as an Imperial Player, I'd like to trade my probe droid in for something else.... maybe a Tie Advanced.

It could have a bonus against shielded units or something;)

Why? you already have the Tie Defender, which in X-wing Alliance is superior to the Tie Advance in every single way ;)

I'd like norgi or (how ever its spelled) commandos myself they could be melee units like rancors but as fast ewoks with more attack and hit pionts good armor too make their conuter jedi and strike mechs (claws lose to steel armor).

Erlier I had suggested using Commmandoe units.

rebels- Infiltrators
Imps- Noghri
Naboo- Royal Commandoe

Etc.

My thought... and mind you, this is only a guess... but the A-Wing could be very very good if it had a higher rate of fire than a fighter. Imagine, it has a longer range (33%) and less attack. But, if its rate of fire was a bit higher than the Adv. Fighter's, it would tear through a wave of oncoming aircraft before they could get into range. Then, if any were left, the A-wing could run.

Also, don't forget the new Attack-Move command. I imagine the A-Wing will be quite useful with that command. Use about 10 to 20 of then to clear a path.

Just some thoughts,

Yes, if its rate of fire is higher than other fighters, it could be sort a like a repeater trooper, though its rate of fire won't be as fast as a repeater troopers.

How do you know that they have a higher rate of fire? Are you a beta tester?

We don't but it's clear that to compete it will need some kind of edge over other fighters, bombers, or cursiers. I personly think that rebels won't get the anti air refit but instead the A-Wing will get a huge bonus on air curisers. That or as above it will have something others don't it must do something to be worth it.

I think people know about Lucasarts website. Unlike our Clone Campaigns, they don't carry no where near as much info.

One of the reasons why Lucasarts allowed us to published pictures of the civs and units early.
