my inbox has finally reached the 1000 unread e-mail mark! every single one is a spam!
so what laws are there concerning spam? it gets in my back. Im beginning to dislike all the popups too! ;) although i know some sites need the money
The laws are pretty useless. You're supposed to be able to opt out, but all that really means in practice is that a spammer can just stick an opt-out link in there and keep on spamming. The only thing to do is filter it out. Most spam is sent to a list and not your actual address, so I've set up Outlook Express to delete everything that doesn't have an acceptable TO field (my e-mail address and the lists I want to be on).
Popups are easy to deal with. If you're using IE there are things like Pop-Up Stopper, and Mozilla and Opera have built-in popup blocking.
Bummer.
The article was about spammers who have been sending messages saying that you've won some kind of game console. A link in the e-mail takes you to a site that instructs you to download a small program needed to claim the console, but in reality the program connects you to a porn site than charges about $4 per minute. As I understood it, as long as the program is on your machine and running, and you have an active connection, you're getting charged. Slimy bastards, aren't they? And, yes, they are being prosecuted.
now i bring back WOOHOO! PROSECUTION!
