i think the trade federation or the empire will probably have the edge but thats just for my playing style
that is why the developers are trying to balance the game. They don't want one civ to dominate all others.
i think all the civs will have some sort of weakness
like maybe the imps units cost a whole bunch, or the are weak to certains civs

It is a basic tie between the Imps and the Wookies in popularity and that is the judge for right now.
As i once said, "Strength is in the style of the beholder." :D
anyways, what ever civ you play the best with, the one that matches your style will your dominant civ. the game as a whole is balanced, so the player's strengths, not the civs, will determine the best one.
