AOC had like 13 civs or something like that and that still seemed
small i cant even immagine 6.:fett: :fett:
well with AoK, having 13 civs were easier then with GB.
For one main reason the civs in AoK, where grouped into about 6 different buildind art sets. The monks and villagers were all the same. Because three or four civs shared the same art it didn't take as long to make more, also the units were the same execpt for UU ones.
With GB no unit/building will be in common each will have it's own look, this takes more time so I think 6 is more then enough.
yeah i guess ur right buy in a multy player game assuming there will b eight players possible u will have repeats and stuff 8 civs would probably b the magic number guess i can pray for an expansion
there is the same amount of artwork in the AoK series as in GB.
the
I think that six civs are more then enough. I'm hoping for an expansion pack with *six more* civs, but for the primary game: six is great.
I think 6 civs should be enough. Look at StarCraft. Its a very popular game and that only has three. What matters is if the units are diverse. AOK had 13 civs, but most of the units looked the same/similar. GB is having 6 civs, but their units are all going to be different. WarCraft 2 only had 2 civs. That was a popular game at its time, but I never really liked it. It only had two civs, but their units were almost exactly the same. They had different names and art, but their attacks and their stats were almost identical. For me it really lowered the replay value....but I don't think 6 is too few, as long as those six are diverse.
never forget about expansion packs:) ;)
Good point. Its always good to have an expansion pack that adds a civ or two. Makes the game 'new' again, so to speak. Brood War and the WC expansion are the only xpacks that I can think of that didn't add civs....hopefully if GB does well we'll be getting more then a few suprises in an xpack in addition to some civs.
New techs + units + civs... I hope the GB expansion is at the same level of quality the AOK's one was :D
In all honesty we are lucky to come away withj more than two. Look at Rebellion, and FoCom, they only had two. And C&C only ever had two, as well as many other rts games. We should be veryhappy that we are getting six "unigue" civs, that is more than any other rts game i can think of. AOK really only has one civ with 13 different names.
im hoping for another set of civs in maybe an add-on....
hopefully the correlian diktat are among those... and of course ewoks
:D
If I can find a way to do it I'll create Vong and Criminal civs
By the way, you can control ewoks in the Rebel Endor mission, I think. You can also get them with the Scenario editor.
6 civs should be enough for the primary game, since they arent going to be like the AOK civs, where they all look alike. But if it does well they BETTER make an expansion to GBG, with more civs ect.

It only seemed small because they didn't have MASSIVE AMOUNTS of artwork. They had 4 sets of artwork for AoK...in GB they have 6 completely different sets of artwork. I do think it would be nice to have more, but I believe that 6 is great for this launch. There will be either mods or expansions for this game to have diffrent races.
i think this game sounds as good as it is already. just think, 6 different civs, with units that are similar in terms of what unit class they're in, but different in terms of look and probably other aspects (weapons, shields, etc.). i think 6 is enough and they picked civs that anyone who considers themself a star wars fan can relate to, not just hard core star wars fans who know about the other civs like most of us here.....
Well... six civs is better than none at all ;)
Also you have to remember if they plan on making an X-pac, and followed AoK/AoE lead, they would need more civs to add to the game.
Yes, 6 civs are good enough for now. But who knows, maybe we'll get 6 more down the line. The skys the limit. That's what makes it really cool. Who really wants to wait for them to make 6 more civs and perfect them and release the game? I don't, I'd rather play the game now and let them work on an expansion
I can't argue with that, but i think that he means that they should have made more covs in the first place, not add them now. That would defeinately take way too long.
I think that six civs is plenty right now. AoK had only like one civ, they just gave it 13 different names and added UUs. Once the game has been out for maybe a year, I'm sure we'll hear about an xpack. Hopefully the xpack will include the Chiss. :thrawn2: They are my favorite. :D
i still say they need to have a total of at least 8 civs after the x pack so its not like u have to have repeat civs in multiplayer games over the internet :D i mean with Aok the comp was so easy so to get better u had to play on the internet and i just think repeat civs are pretty lame
:c3po: :yoda: :yoda: :yoda: :yoda: :yoda: i am the master of my thread hahahahaha
kidding
no, that's not what i meant exactly. what i meant in reference to the other civs such as the vong, chiss, etc., civs that you'd be familiar with if you read books by timothy zahn, etc.
LA, had to pic civs that everyone would be familar with.
Naboo, Gunguns, TF=Episode 1.
Wookies because of Chewbacca
Rebels, and imps for obivous reasons
yeah i guess u guys are right ...... maybe....... well just have to see how it plays in multiplayer :D
alot of people repeated civs in MP anyways, so i don't think that it will be a big problem. What's wrong with having two of the same civ?
Yeah, I'm very happy with six. But an expansion will be welcome. :D
a game like Starcraft only had 3 civs, but everybody praises that game because gameplay was so great. and the civs provided a truly different experience when you played them. I feel it's the same with GB, and with six civs instead of three, we'll be hard pressed to ask for more.
All the AOK units look alike, there was no variety, in responce to your original question, I think I agree, the variety of GB should help, though, besides, Starcraft had 3, and they didn't have any complaints from anyone I know.
AoK large amount of civs that looked alike seems to have spoiled you.
GB will have 6 unique civs and that is more then enough for me (an X-pac would be great with new civs but I'm content with 6 for now)
I think 6 is enough, also. I do expect an expansion. Maybe they can add the Noghri, Mon Calamari, and others for example.
IN a X-pac
I think the civs could be
Mon Cal
Sullustains
Correllians
and maybe some from episode 2.
sounds good odin how about those dudes like plo koon man i think those guys are awesome looking:cool:
well they need to grab civs that people and can easily reconize. know about just from the movies. I think that is what made them pick the initial six and will make the pick any civs in an X-Pack.
Six is more than enough. What RTS game has more than six unique civs?
As for the expansion, I'd rather see new units for the original civs rather than entirely new civs. I'm guessing I'm in the minority there;)
I'd expect the expansion to be influenced heavily by Ep II, with maybe some stuff from the New Jedi Order books. So you'll most likely see a Clone army of some type and the Yuzzan Vong (sp?) along with whatever else they can use from those two sources.
No matter what, I'm happy. I got the only Civ I care about: The Galactic Empire:deathii:
the vong would be awesome :) finally id be able to extract revenge on the vong... for what they did to chewie.. and everyone else in the books...

I agree! The six+ new should be Trandoshans, Geonosians, Kaminoans, Mon Calamari, Rodians, Hutt space (nel hutta?), Black Sun, Sulskens, Grans, Ithorians, and maybe Bothans! Just give us more civs in the expansion for ep II or III!:fett: :fett: :fett:

By AOK being cooler then SC, do you just mean because it has more civs then SC?
I'd rather have a few diverse civs then a lot of similar civs any day.
i agree with gamma all the way. Ill take 3 or 4 very diverse races before 12 almost the same races...

No, I mean it's not as cool in plot or anything pretty much, at least not as cool as GB is gonna be! It will have more than a few diverse civs.

The vong should never be in GB, ever. They are just too twisted and strange.

Ohh I think I misunderstood. Ok, I get it.
Just a little different thought about why LA put only 6 civs in the game.
a major reason could be economy.
Think about it. right now they have put in six major civs (more or less)
Now all of you want more civs, and that could be exactly why they put in only 6. If the put in to many an expansion pack would have to go into the more diverse civs that only die hards would know.
Now that wouldn't sell to good with the casual fans. So by giving only six civs they create an opportunity to add more in a X-pack. Also it creates a desire for an X-pack which means more money.

Great thought!:fett:
Does anyone else think that there should be bonuses for more civs than the Trade Fed and Naboo? I also think that the Trade Fed's is unfair(800 droids!). If they do that the droids should be weaker than other units and/or other civs should have a higher pop limit like 300-350 or so. But not so much that it will totally slow down your machine. :fett:
that is only in the TF campaign. in multiplayer it will be the standard 200 pop limit.
dude 800 units isnt going to slow down your machine that much i mean in AOK there were always in 8 playere games people at pop limit thats 1600 units its now going to be that slow

Yeah... but it will still be very slow... ;)
