muchafraid--

According to Dr. D. James Kennedy of Evangelism Explosion, there are approximately 2 billion Christians in the world today. I'm not sure what the total world population is--maybe 6 billion? I don't know, but if it is 6 billion, then the Christian percentage is roughly 33%.

Hope that's helpful.

I can post a link to a statistics page.

Christianity (those who claim to be Christian) is the largest faith group on earth. Second in line is Islam (and if current trends continue, I think in about 50 years they say Islam will overtake Christianity in numbers worldwide).

It's roughly 2 billion (a bit more actually).

And yes, we have over 6 billion people on earth currently.

Yeah, Kurgan if you could post that link I'd be interested also. Well religions are interesting because for one thing very few people that are of a certain religion choose themselves to become of that religion. There are a few people who convert to a certain religion but I know those are not the majority. I belive that those who do convert to their religion are or are more likely to be far more interested and deticated to their religion. 33% does sound about right for the numbers though.

I wonder what percentage from each group claims to have converted, as opposed to being raised in it?

Of course that doesn't count the "born agains" who grew up with it, didn't really take it seriously, then got zealous about it later in life.

Here's (one) link:

According to the site, the largest group is "Christian" which has 2 billion, the second being "Islam" which has 1.2 billion, and then "Hindu" and "Nonreligious (Atheist, Agnostic, Secular Humanist, None, etc)" being tied at about 900 million.
