I really like the X-Wing series, so Stackpole gets my vote. Corran Horn is one of the more interesting characters in the expanded universe.

A close second-runner would have to be Timothy Zahn for giving us the lovely Mara Jade...and Admiral Thrawn (of course).

Heh, my favorite is Zahn with Stackpole as a fairly close second.

So far you all have great taste. Keep the opinions coming. Also, try some of Stackpole's other books. Talion: Revenant is probably his best With The Dark Glory either just as good or better.

Bear in mind, if you read the Dark Glory War, the end will surprise you, (and possibly anger you)but, just remember that it is the first in the four book DragonWar Series. The last three books are still forthcoming.

Mine is Terry Brooks. I like his other stuff too.

Stackpole was great. So is Timothy Z. I think Kevin J Anderson sucks, but's that my opinion.

Zahn. If Heir to the Empire wasn't as good as it was and still is, there wouldn't have been a Dark Force Rising. The expanded universe would have never happened as it has. He was there at the right time to write the right book to start the momentum that helped carry the fans to Episode I and beyond.

Side note on Kevin Anderson. He tried to take over the series. Instead of making it Lucas's Galaxy in which we all get to play, he tried to make it his Galaxy in which you have to like what I do. He ruined several characters, wrote some of the worst books (Dark Saber and some of the lamer Tales of whatever). His Guides and Technical companions are just as blury. The only good thing he did was give us the oppurtunity to have more Jedi. (Although in half a book Stackpole takes us through the Jedi Trilogy better than Anderson did in 3).

My faves are Stackpole (for the X-Wing series), Zahn (for the Thrawn Trilogy and the Hand of Thrawn Duology), and Anderson because I'm one of the few who actually liked Jedi Academy.

The idea was good, but I just dont like the way Anderson writes the characters, especially Luke. As was stated before, in half a book, Stackpole told the story better than Anderson did. Anderson should stick to playing Star Trek characters (he was Garak in DS9). All I can say is, thank God he hasn't been asked to write any of the NJO novels. Although, I really wish they would get Zahn to do a trilogy, or at least a hardback.

Agreed. The sooner they get Zahn to write NJO, the better. So far, Michael Stackpole and Kathy Tyers have written the only unputtdownable NJO stuff. So, Timothy Zahn would be a very welcome treat.

Try reading that new SW book: Darth Maul Shadow Hunter. That is a very fast paced very intense book with possibly the best lightsaber fights ever written. Incredible book.

I dunno. I wouldn;t count out Salvatore. He did a really good job with an immensly rough situation. He had to be the first to write a new series, which is completly different than any other Star Wars thing done so far. And to top it all off, he had to be the one to kill off a major, and loved character. ALl things considering, I think he did a great job. I was splendedly suprised with Tyers. I liked Truce at Bakura kinda, and to be honest, I wasnt expecting much, especially after that boring stuff they titled Agents of Chaos, but she pulled off what is arguably one of the best Star Wars books to date. Stackpole is great with just about everything he does in the SW universe. All I can say is, Get Zahn to do some books, and bring back Corran Horn!

I didn't see his name (ADF) on the cover of "Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker" (copyright 1976). ESB and ROTJ have their "ghost" writers credited on each book.

I've seen pics or Robinson out of makeup (I had a magazine interview around here somewhere), and he's a fairly slim, cleanshaven guy with brown hair. Kevin J. Anderson is a heavyset redhead with a beard.

Zahn is the greatest author ever to live. I read the entire Thrawn trilogy in under a weak, talk about not putting it down. However, Stackpole is a very close second, I loved the X-Wing Series.

However, i love all the books i read from starwars, and thats alot, over 30.

I haven't counted, but my Star Wars book collection (including novels, comics, and graphic novels, and excluding RPG material, video games, and non-continuity), has recently (as of NJO: Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse) outgrown its storage capacity.

It currently fills three shelves (each ~1 metre wide), with Jedi Eclipse, NJO: Balance Point, and Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter stacked on the floor.
