He wasn't suggesting forced sterilization, or a stifling of free speech. While conveniant, this is hardly the last place where one can discuss anything and everything.

And you guys were gettin on to me for messing with the subject of this thread...

Notes:
I am not autistic.
I was being sarcastic about the "rule the forum" quote, sarcasm doesn't show too well in text i guesse.
I don't like Chasing Amy, not because I don't understand it, but because I didn't think it was funny, I like funny movies and Kevin Smith is funny so I was disapointed.
I eat Spam, yes it is true.

and if you kill the misc. forum, people will just post thier gratuitous comments in places that are suppose to be about something insted of a place where they fit, like now for instance, where would one post a note about killing misc. forums and tell people how stupid people can be if there was no misc. forum. If you posted it in an important forum you would get a bunch of reply that ridicule you and call you autistic, but hey that is just me, besides i like the misc. forum, it is just so, misc.

note2: for those of you who don't know, misc.=miscillanious, but im lazy.

It all fits... I know what happens when someone hails Isaac's fascist ideas.

Fine, keep your arrogance, because it doesn't make a strong mind, it only keeps a weak one from defeat.

I think Shmargin was right when he said there's no reason to post anywhere else because there's no other news. You got everyone all riled up isaac when you had some news from Infinite Machine, but now it's just dead again. You don't have to read the off-topic forum, but closing it won't do any good. It won't push people into the on-topic forums, it will just make them leave and the forums will be 100% dead. At least as it is now, when or if something new comes out there will be people around to talk about it and have fun (or whatever it is we do).

It seems to me that some of you have trouble reading between the lines. And when I say some of you, I mean all of you.

toxic cognitive waste problems - does using this convoluted expression (two intertwined expressions) not make you think twice about the gist of the rest of the post?

It will work. I am not trying to create chaos and confusion. I am not undermining the forums' stability. - doesn't it seem odd that I became ultra apologetic about my scheme without incident?

(If you find this notion appealing, you must be a right-wing fundamentalist) - I had the notion that this is self explanatory.

I was wondering if you've ever had a sort of heart-to-heart talk with another, Isaac, because it seems to me that your ego would cause them to deem themselves pathetic and give up.

Besides, I'm pretty sure Jester was siding with you.

The common phrase "no one understands me" springs to mind here.

Yes, Jester is siding with me and against you, for the third time. That doesn't deem him unfit to like hearing cornershop wisdom. Which you persevere pursuing, might I add.

Thank you for your attention to my mental health. But I don't take advice from the unskilled, untrained, and uninformed. Your inquiry might have been as sincere as my gratitude, but I will take it seriously--although it won't quiet you, it will encourage you to discuss it later. So for short, yes, I have frequent intimate conversations with people near and dear to me, and sometimes with people not as near and dear. I'm an intimate person. And now that I have put my personality on trial, everyone will feel much more comfortable to give "advice", "insight", "words of wisdom", "guidance", "assessments", and "analysis" of my self, similar to what you have done, SyntheticGerbil. People don't realize that whatever problem they might observe through written text is in their imagination. And, your honor, to my defense, and to my credit, people who I like, like me, and people I don't like, who are very little in number it seems, don't like me. That, in my opinion, is a very good state of affairs, in my opinion! And I realize my opinion counts for very little in this court, because I am on trial.

I mean, I honestly dont expect there to be any news on the cartoon show any time soon...News on new comic developments seem to be tiny itty bitty specs of nothing, where Purcell just says the name Sam or something in an interview, and as for the new game....Well.....We have that amazing concept art we can all discuss...Theres the game support forum, but uh, I think 98% of the people that are regulars here, beat that game several thousand times back when Windows 3.1 was around, and all you used it for was Solitair, and still were using ye old DOS commands to play your games...So uh...dont get rid of the misc section...

haha! theres nothing in the directory, but Something is using up 146504 bytes of space, how can this be!?!?! its all hidden!
attrib -h showes everything again

or how about making a .bat file that called win.bat so when you wanted to go back to windows from DOS it would do something the total opposite? or a file called c:.bat that would go to the D drive? the possibilities for prankstering were endless!

hey Iisaac, remember that time you said you should never abandon one of your men? well in Afghanistan they tried to save one guy, and when they wen't to save him, their helicorpter was ambushed. After 12 hours of fighting the guy who was being saved was killed, and of the ones that went to save him, 7 were killed and 11 wounded.
thats why you leave them behind.

Quackass, first of all:
Get your facts (http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/03/06/ret.servicemen.bodies/) straight (http://www.cnn.com/2002/US/04/26/ret.anaconda.report/index.html).
Now, you're saying they should have left the guy to abuse and torture by his captors. You're saying that because the U.S. military is incompetent and can't overcome a group of guerrilla fighters with a chopper and ground crew, no one should attempt to rescue their fellow soldiers. If we follow that reason, than no one should attempt to fire a gun, because the U.S. army is so incompetent that it kills friendlies. Come on, they brought in a total of four helicopters with highly skilled men, and they couldn't take out a small ground force. That's tragic.

See, it's no reason to stop because someone else fails. Even if the U.S. lost their entire military trying to rescue that one man, it would be one example of gargantuous incompetence. It would be a failure in execution, not a failure in policy. A corresponding example would be an instance where the justice system lets a guilty man go free. That mistake is inherited in the system, but that does not mean that using the system is a mistake. Back to your case, mistakes were made when trying to rescue that man, but that does not mean that trying to rescue a captured or injured man is wrong. I’ll remind you that originally this discussion was about whether leaving injured men in the field is military policy, and whether it is smart. So, because of the reasons above, you do not convince me.

well I got my facts from the newspaper, but as it said in the second article you posted, most news reports weren't on the money anyways, so you can't blame me. Besided, CNN isn't known to always speak the truth and noting but, so how do you know their news articles were the truth?
I never said anything about incompetance, it would have happened to anyone who went there (especially since they wen't to the exact same place as the incident to drop men off.)
Could you please explain the link between not rescuing someone and that people shouldn't attempt to fire a gun?
I wasn't arguing how the policy failed, I was stating thats why the policy in question isn't a good one to have.
I remember our first discussion on the issue, but it wasn't strictly limited to the topic of leaving injured men in the field, it was a little broader.

anyways, I think the policy isn't a good one if its just one man, however if it were say 3 or 4 men, then they should be rescued. When rescuing them, its also better to carry out your operation at either dawn or dusk when people are least prepared, also don't reuturn to where the person was lost because you're very likely to be ambushed.
As for injured men, leave them with their (uninjured) buddy and carry on, the reason you leave injured men behind is because in war the idea is to mane someone, not kill them. The reason you want to mane the person is because the person becomes more of a burden than if they were dead. This is why balls (known informally as "bullets") are copper plated, if they were left as unplated lead they would do more damage and kill more people.
