I'm in the part where I've rescued the prisoners and I'm suposed to find the head guy and make him open the door... I've gotten as far as climbing through an air duct but it just comes out to a long vertical shaft. If I fall down it I die.... any help would be appreciated. Thanks

This is exactly the forum where you should post this kind of threads :).
Go back to the control room... there's a switch in there that turns on that fan... then go back to the shaft and you can fall safely down
