If you want some spare money, sell 256MB of your RAM. There is (almost) no difference between 512MB and 768MB in performance.

With that spare money...get a fricken TV as your monitor! DAMN! 27' inch?!?! That's how big MY TV is...:(

Right now here are my comp specs:

Athlon T-bird 1.4Ghz
256 Ram
Geforce 3 (original)
17" Monitor
ADSL

It's pretty good and it works, but its a Gateway :( I dislike Gateways after my first one died, then my other one got fried by lightning. Oh well, before I go off to college in 5 months I'll be building my own :)

I don't really need any spare money.

And generally no theres no much difference in 512 and 768 as far as performance. My GF3 card has 128 megs of VRAM on it as well.

Needless to say there are some good things about having 768 megs of ram.

Q3A engine performance issues to be exact.

com_hunkmegs is default set to 52, that is the amount of memory allocated to the engine at any one time for cache swapping.

This is set on the understanding of at the release of Q3A, most systems were running 64 megs of RAM standard.

But the more memory availible for swapping, the faster you can access data, the more FPS you get.

With 768 megs of RAM, I can afford to run my com_hunkmegs at 128 megs, my com_zonemegs (this cvar effects caching for map visible surfaces) at 64, and my com_soundmegs (sound caching) at 32. All double to triple the default config settings.

Needless to say...I feel for you and your 8 FPS. I generally run about 120 FPS in rooms and buildings...and about 80 FPS in large outdoor areas. Pretty much in all the games I play.

And I use my monitor as my TV. I've got a Hauppage TV/FM Radio Stereo card which I run my digital cable into. No reason to have more than one tube...in my opinion.

Nah Ron1jed. I get plenty of play from my female friends.

I've just got the money to spend...so I spend it. I've got bills too, but I generally make alot more than my bills.

Why would you assume that someone with the money to have a top end system would be a big dork that can't get laid? Thats sorta viciously jealous bud.

It is possible to have nice toys....and not be a big dork yanno.
