I think we must wait because the game was announced months before there was anything resembling a screenshot presentable enough to release to the public. The press got word way ahead of time that IM was making the game and they just went ahead and told people it was being worked on. That doesn't mean any art for the game has been nearly finalized. When games like Grim Fandango or Monkey Island are announced they've been in development for two years already, and only release a couple shots. From what I can tell, the Infinite Machine Sam & Max game if anything has a year under its belt by now, but who knows since nobodys talking. I'd rather nobody talked and then we were surprised than constant talking and then dissapointment if the game gets canned or something.

Neither THQ nor New Legends would can Sam & Max. If Steve (or his brother) managed to get a cartoon series to an unfavorable target audience, he could manage to pull forward a console game, notwithstanding bankruptcy.

Can someone explain why The Geek exists?

Quackass already stated that the Geek was induced due to a feminist pressure group that insisted on a strong female role. Damn you, feminists, trying to dispute male hegemony! Male leads are cool, female leads are ornamental.
