Hey all :)
Okay dunno if such a topic has existed yet but I'd love to see all the things that are done wrong in the newer eps. So stuff that doesn't fit the universe when you look back at what happened or was before in SMI or LCR.
Also mention from which game you found the contradiction and compared to which game's happening it doesn't fit with.
Thanks :)
My first:
EMI: Herman's on Monkey Island like he never left since SMI. But in LCR he was clearly not on Monkey Island but on Dinky Island..
Mine...
In LCR Guybrush had a beard/mustache at least growing, but, then in CMI, he had no facial hair and an EARRING! That's my contradiction... most disturbing.
How about in MI2, when it all turns out to be a dream? That's a pretty long and detailed dream, including much humor and dialog that a young kid wouldn't be able to dream up. As much as it was hinted towards in MI2, it seems Ron hadn't even gotten the idea in MI1.
Oh, and in EMI Elaine's voice is different.

Yeah, in CMI she sounded kinda British with the accent and all, but in EMI the accent disappeared...
In MI2 Elaine said she'd quit her job as governor of Melee Island. In CMI the Voodoo lady told us she was the governor of Melee, Booty and Plunder.
That's probably because she quit being the goavernor of Melee to be the governor of Boty then Plunder... I don't see much there sorry :|
Oh, and in CMI there aren't any huge pixels anymore. And everybody actually talks instead of a bunch of text just popping up above their heads.
And what's up with the whole voodoo thing? Sounds a bit fictional to me. I'm sure that contradicts something. And L. Ron Gilbert wasn't alive in pirate times!
And nobody can hold their breath for ten minutes!
Yes. And in all the games, Guybrush is obviously NOT BREATHING AT ALL. Watch his chest. No motion! It seems Guybrush can hold his breath for quite a bit longer than 10 minutes.

Well, I'll repeat what I said... In CMI the voodoo lady said Elaine was the governor of Melee, Booty and Plunder.
And more importantly, where did the MIDI music go?
aww shucks! you guys are turning this into a joke thread ;P
cmon be serious now ;) ahh what the heck, :P
if you can't beat 'em join 'em..so
in EMI the pirate world turned into a semi 3d world, while the originals were obviously a flat 2d dream
In the second game, the action was interrupted much more frequently by a mysterious "please insert disk..." message than in the first.
By contrast, these messages disappeared almost entirely in the last two games.
I didn't see a single one of these messages in the first two games once I got a hard disk drive. Whoa man, how did I affect that cute piraty world by adding a piece of hardware to my Amiga?!?!
Also: when you're chasing the storekeeper in MI1, you can spend as long as you want swapping disks and he doesn't get away from you. It's not natural!
And, if you don't add the flower to the meat in SOMI, and give the meat to the poodles, the meat seems to reappear over and over again in the kitchen. I don't know about you guys, but I didn't see ONE cow on the island, and I thought no pirates left the island nor CAME TO the island... it's a mystery....
Errors in CMI/EMI: They don't work on 286 machines! DAMN THEM TO HELL!!!
=mek=
Error in EMI: It was created... :D:D:D

I think the british accent sounded a lot more piratey than the EMI accent, in EMI she sounded too american to be a pirate, I mean no offence to the USA (because you guys invented cable TV so without you I'd just be sitting on my sofa watching *yuch* terrestrial TV!) but you're not the most piratey sounding nation!
So saying that she sounded British and since Pirates sound like that then you should be honored to be called pirates... I complimented you lol.
Guybrush's accent doesn't sound very pirate-ish either...

Guybrush doesn't seem very pirate-ish in general...
Which is another CMI/EMI error!

In SMI you find in the ships diary says that herman was the first mate and they both landed on Monkey Island through Hermans cooking. In EMI Herman tells the story of being elaines captain grandfather being chased by LeChuck and ending up washed up on Monkey Island . . . I think that's what he said I've only played through the whole game once because it was so . . . so . . . bad.
Through all the games, Guybrush has these growths spurts and then shrinks again! SOMI and LCR he was about the same height, then in CMI he got huge! Then in EMI he shrunk... strange.
In CMI Guybrush is a lot taller than the previous games yet his clothes from SMI still seem to fit him and even though he's dumped in chicken grease and thrown into a cannon they never get dirty.
Also, in MI1 and MI2 if you press Alt-W you automatically win. I'm pretty sure that doesn't work in real life.
I don't think you can hold your breathe for ten minutes in real life either...

Well, if you die before you can breath out...
Okay, you can't get shot out of a cannon and into a pole that isn't very far from you without extreme pain and head injuries.

It's impossible to hold your breath until you die; unless of course you were say underwater in which case when you pass-out you'll drown.
=mek=
Read Martin Eden (by Jack London). It has a lovely description of how to drown yourself (it involves breathing out, however).
Have you ever tried it?
Then how do you know if it works?
Actually, you can hold your breath for as long as you like-- no water needed. Just tape your mouth and nostrils shut. Eventually you'll die of suffocation, but no breath will get out.

It's not air-tight... simple hannings that occur in gaols are usually with say a pillow case tied to something behind you (like your bed poll), and you lean foward. You'll eventually faint when you've held your breath long enough and then die due to lack of Oxygen since you can't breathe in.
But hyperthetically speaking, if in an ordinary circumstance you held your breath until you passed out you'd only faint and then since you are no longer concious have no way of preventing your body from breathing again.

Just ruin my fun then.
Yeah once you pass out, you're body will make you look like this ------>:o Then, you will wake up and make a face like this --->
Thank you for your time :D
EMI is a contradiction in itself. Everything about it is wrong. I don't mean as a game, cos I loved it, but as an addition to the Monkey Island series? Please.
And about the accents: everyone knows that the best pirates were English or Spanish. Back then Americans were English, if you follow.

Yeah! Elaine's CMI voice suited her character much better than her EMI voice!
I think EMI's voice acting was a lot better than CMI's actually. Elaine was un-Britishized, but Stan's voice got a lot cooler and quite a few characters did not have American accents... Ignatious Cheese, Pegnose Pete, Marco de Pollo, and Otis... Otis's accent was the best thing in the game!
Yeah, the plot was a big... messy thing, but the whole game in general is worthy of the MI title. Why do all the games have to be perfectly consistent with each other? The next game should be an abstract dadaist political thriller musical.
I kind of prefer no voices. It's like a silent film. It draws more attention to the music, which is more important.
