have you found any secretes in the game yet post them here if you have
btw if this is in the wrong place someone move it
Wow, you've played Grim Fandango? Kudos. Sorry if I seem surprised, but I don't think we get too many SW fans who are interested in adventure games.
:manny:
The easter eggs I've spotted on my own are all in year 2 or 4. Max and the Corley Motors (from Full Throttle) logo are tatoo options in the tatoo parlor in Rubacava. There's a spinning Corley Motors sign in Nuevo Marrow as well.
PS: It's secrets, not secretes :). That means something completely different.
I played the demo and will have the game at xmas
btw secrets is a word I always get wrong
I think you'll enjoy it, but then again, I'm biased. ;)
And I say, You'll definetly enjoy it.
in the first year, when you zoom in on some of the festival watchers you can see Bogen, Max and Olivia...
I have a feeling that that's more laziness on the part of the designers than an easter egg.
GF doesn't have too many secrets. Nor secretions for that matter. A few graphic injokes that have already been mentioned (but the Corely sign in N. Marrow doesn't spin).
Year two is a sustained reference to Casablanca: Manny and Glottis are dressed like Bogart is in some scenes (white-jacketed tuxedo); Bogen looks like Prefect Renault; Blue Casket = Blue Parrot. There are a few other things along those lines in year two.
Casablanca also shows up in the rest of the game, too. Hector's wears a fez just like Sydney Greenstreet's character does; and Hector is fat like Greenstreet. Greenstreet's character isn't a villain in Casablanca but he is in The Maltese Falcon. The Double-N tickets could be a Casablanca reference, too. Specifically, to the movie's coveted (and nonsensical) 'letters of transit'.
The whole idea of Manny and Meche is taken from Chinatown: just imagine the interrogating scene is Manny's office
man, I wish I'd actually seen some of these films....
they're the black- b movie- cultfilms highlights
k, my dad will have them somewhere.
I DON'T WANNA KNOW HERE HE KEEPS IT!
and it's grim fandango not grim fandiago
heh you thought that ws scary: next time come and see my sister when she gets out of bed...

Oh, believe me, I have
That's about all I need to hear, Leisure Suit Scabby :D.
They also took the petrified forest nasme of a film noir movie in the 30's-40's ... *taps his noggin*
Things have changed, hows everyone doin
Quite well, just waiting for more regulars to come back.
I'm kinda looking to be a regular now the forums have merged.
I guess you could call me a regular... or, like some people, a spammer...

The interrogating scene could be from any film noir movie for that matter. Meche is the femme fatale in Grim Fandango and the game keeps up with the film noir tradition by not actually revealing until the very end if the woman in question is actually all that innocent or not. As a huge fan of film noir, GF was a true feast for eyes, ears and mind. I actually hoped you would've had the option to switch into B&W mode, as in Sam & Max Hit the Road! ;)
Black and white. Sans color.

I always thought Eva was the femme fatale of Grim Fandango. I'm also a big noir buff (at least in my mind), and she stood out to me more than Meche in that respect. Meche, in my opinion, was more of a maiden-in-distress, although she did have her tough moments. Eva was always tough, and although she disappears in years 2 and 3, she still plays an important role in the game.
The tatoo guy (Toto Santos) speaks hungraian in a part of the game, see my thread about it.
Btw: How can I put/upload an image into my signature??
Grim Fandango rulz of course

Femme fatale = fatal woman
The FF is the women who one way or another sends men to their doom. That'd be Olivia for GF. Eva's what's called the 'tough cookie'.

How do you zoom in on certain parts?
If I'm not mistaking isn't that a little video you watch and you see them 3? I don't think there is away to zoom in. I coulda swore it was a movie that you saw them. Could be wrong tho...
Right. It's only in the trailer that Olivia, Nick (not Max), and Bogen are at the festival. But in the game, when you're at the clown's tent, Olivia can be seen in the street beyond. She's visible just to the right of the clown's tent. Her head is directly underneath an orange flag.
hmmm another In-joke, at least I THINK it's an in-joke cause the whole move directly reminded me of Outlaws..
You see at the end..
*SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*
Manny walks up to the door and Hector sprouts into flowers through the door..then Manny throws down his gun, turns around and walks away..
Now if anyone of you ever played Outlaws, it's very much the same style as Marshall Anderson walked away from..hmm I can't remember perfectly, could've been the first boss (Slim) or that Dr.Death villain in the mines. Anyway seriously; the moves look a like :)
I had another Outlaws reference, but I kinda forgot, maybe i'll remember it later again hehe :)
Bah!!! i SOOOOOO want to play outlaws, the problem is when it first came out i didn't like FPS's - now i love em!
damn you! damn you all to hell!!
I'm only wondering why he asked for secrets when he doesn't even own the game yet.
He didn't at that point, but he does now.
found another vreference to casablanca if anyone hasn't spotted it already, the french tablemaster is a cross between two guys who work in the casino in cas.., just thought id bring that one up, well who else has missed talkin crap:)?
i remember we had on official 'crap' thread back on the old forum. Were all the posts were just about nothin!
Ah yes, the old moderator's nightmare. That was almost as bad as that hangman trend ;).
now THAT was a long thread!
btw, i managed to sign the old board before, took a lot of clicking the 'stop' button before i was redirected but i got there in the end!
Wow,
this post is still near the top of the queue,
it has been for ages
Oh, the script on the main GFN page goes by replies instead of by date.
