Well, since there have been a lot of threads about favorite games, I thought I'd start one nobody has talked about yet.
My favorite RPGs are:
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy III (Japan = 6)
Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VIII
All the Zelda games (Zelda, Link, Link's Awakening, The SNES one (I Forgot!), Ocarina of TIme, Majaro's Mask(never played it though)
I haven't played them yet, but I think the Secret of Mana games are good, and I like Super Mario RPG :D
I agree, the final fantasy series
especially Final Fantasy II
All of the Zelda games
Exile I
Exile II
Exile III
Blades of Exile
and an old classic
Moria
Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos (Great game, which I still play occasionatly)
Lands of Lore II (Lousy graphics (judged by the time it was released, but a great story.)
Lands of Lore III (Great graphics, but this time a lousy story.)
i was never into rpgs much untill just recently. i really enjoy Chrono Trigger.
Only one I've ever liked was "Daggerfall". I dig "Deus Ex" also, which has some RPG elements I suppose.
I guess you COULD say that... considering the equipping, etc... but I guess that's about all I can say because Deux Ex runs REALLY REALLY slow and crappy on my computer...
:guybrush:
The only RPGs I ever really got into were Chronotrigger, FF7, and Mario RPG. Of those, I really enjoyed Chronotrigger and, for what it was, Mario RPG. I got really sick of the gameplay in FF7 but I kept playing it almost until the end because I liked the plot.
My favorite computer RPG has to be diablo II.
Non computer rpg is a toss up between ad&d 2nd ed. and Shadowrun
Mystic Quest/Final Fantasy I (SNES)
Secret of Mana (SNES)
Zelda a link to the past (SNES)
Zelda link's awakening (Game Boy)
Zelda ocarina of time (N64)
Zelda Majora's mask (N64)
Skies of Arcadia (Dreamcast)
Grandia II (Dreamcast)
I'm not a great fan of RPG's,
but I thought Shenmue was excellent + really intricate.
I'm getting Shenmue 2 for Xmas too.
Oh, if we're actually calling the Zelda games RPGs (it seems a slight stretch), then I've played most of them, too.

I don't really count the shenmue games as RPGs because they don't actually fit into any proper category of game, But I they are my 2 favourite games ever, I've completed both of them so mail me if you get stuck on shenmue 2, it's really good!
If you wanna consider Diablo 2 an RPG then that's added to my list. :manny:
Definetly Mario RPG
followed by Earthbound
I still wait for the mother of all RPGs Super Smash Bros. RPG to be made.
There's no doubt about it... Baldur's Gate. That game ruled so much.
Hmm... never played Baldur's Gate... SSB RPG would be so awesome! Imagine... Link and Samus, and Kirby... side by side owning all!

I haven't played Fallout 1 or 2, but I think it's pretty strange that an RPG is noteworthy because it takes place in a different setting from the majority of other RPGs. I mean, adventure games take place in lots of different settings. But the RPG formula doesn't lend itself to very many different kinds of themes, settings and plots.
For example, Grim Fandango's storyline wouldn't work for an RPG because, well, there's no excuse for Manny to have to battle enemies every corner he turns. What I'm saying is for a game to be an RPG, it needs a plot that allows the elements that makes a game an RPG, which limits the types of settings and stories you can have.
Another difference between RPGs and other adventures is that in adventures, to make the game harder the developers need to come up with harder puzzles, while in RPGs they just need to make harder enemies.
Still, RPGs can be very fun to play, but adventure games have more of what sets RPGs apart from action games. Interesting and diverse plots.

i know what you mean, i do in a way, like adventures more then rpgs. I was just saying i dont always like the fairytale-type setting in most rpgs. But i think the setting that fallout is in is very appropriate for a rpg.
but i dont think making a game a rpg limits the story that much, in many games there are quests that you can choose to do in the process of the game, and many choices to change how the story develops.
i guess it could limit the setting a lot, good point
but the main reason why i said that is because fallout used a different setting then other rpgs, and it also worked well, and i personaly like the story
(sorry if ive said something stupid, i dont play rpgs much)
Well I class an rpg as a game that is....., well it has a sort of...., and it plays sort of like..., NOPE! I can't think how to explain it, damn!
But I do class the zelda games as rpgs! but despite their greatness I do not think the shenmue games are rpgs but I do like them!
I think that Zelda is an RPG because there are othe characters that help you out, and there are sorta towns. Also, Link isn't really THE MAIN character... I mean Princess Zelda gets more important each game that's made. Plus, the whole getting new items/weapons etc. is part of thr RPG deal.
An RPG is a game where your character develops. Most of the time, it develops in the ways of skills and stats... In the Zelda games, you gain more hitpoints/magic points, and you find weapons and stuff.
Also, I think RPGs generally have an inventory system. That is, an inventory that doesn't just contain weapons.
Yeah, and Zelda has inventory with potions and, in some games, masks....
skies of arcadia is one of the best RPGs I've played, it is absolutely humungous!
Grandia II is also good with one heck of a plot!
Evolution is a rubbish piece of god know what! that isn't worth a dang thing!
Zelda RoX - Any Zelda (Particularly first N64 version)
I didnt really like Shenmue, too ... dull
Oh, and FFVII RoX too. Ive on played VII & VIII, but VIII was nowhere near as good

I LOVED Ocarina of time... I never played Majora's Mask (or whatever) and I, too, loved FF3 and I'm going to be playing 7 over the Xmas vacation. I played 8, but never beat it cause I got too bored...
I never finished Ocarina of time. :(
I got to the forest temple and chickened out. It's so scary!
Amazing. Two pages on RPGs and no mention of Ultima. OK, there's one. Satisfied?
You need help.
Shut up, brain.
Um, there's only 1 page (?)
=mek=
Definitely either FF6/3 or Tales of Phantasia. I think they finally finished the ToP English translation a while ago, I suggest anyone who likes console RPGs go get a rom of it. Earthbound is also great, although I wish they had followed through with the 64 version...
