My one major worry: Diversity

This is my real concern. When I hear people planning armies, it is all:

Attacking base, need pummels and artillery

they could have tanks to destroy them, better take Jedi

they could have Jedi too, take Bounty Hunters

they could have bounty hunters, take fighters and bombers

they could have AA weaponary, take mechs

and so on. Do you think this will happen, meaning most armies are the same? Or could armies built up round air and Jedi, for example, still work?

I suppose you could build up armies soley around one type of unit and take everything by force...its just not all that strategic.

But having to buy half the units because he might have another isnt either. I just wish there were some jack of all trades units, which could do all, but not very well

You can use cloaked units on a No-attack stance, sneak them into the base to the power core, have them surround it..

Another tactic is to have a cloaked unit stand ground in the enemy gate so that it won't close. Your units are free to move in and won't waste any time destroying the gate. The unit by the gate might die, though :(

It's hard to win by just using 1 unit, but it's also a very bad idea to try and make an army of every unit. In general, you want the most simple army that can take out the enemy. It takes resources and time to research all the technologies and make all the buildings that are required to field a broad army. In the demo, the *very* latest you want to attack the enemy is around the 30 min mark. It's possible to be at the pop limit with 50 villagers + 25 army and all economic techs researched by 30 mins.

Some general armies I use for 3rd age attacks are:

*Bounty Hunters + Pummels + 1 or 2 Anti Air Mechs
*A Fleet of Z95's + 2 Bombers to take out Powercores
*3 Carriers Full of Pummels + a few Z95's
*Artilery + Bounty Hunters (best combo for Army vs Army)

If the enemy is making one type of unit, attack with its counter.

Every time i come on here there's always somebody talking about brilliant techniques and counters and strategies and complaining about this and that but i somehow never see any of these people on here online....I get on gamespy and play this game at least twice a day and its just a demo but yet i dont see a trace of any of the brilliant tacticians on this forum online..do you guys just play IP games amongst yourselves where you promise not to really hurt each other?

tanks or standard infintary work for me. A tank isnt hurt to badly by a hunter while being lethal, while infintary are cheap enough to throw away

I think that if you take a 100 pummels into your enemies base he's going to last very long but if you take 100 different units into your enemies base he still may have a chance at surviving the attack. But as I said before its not all that strategic your kinda acting like a cheapskate.

Well I probably won't be using pummels near as much once the game comes out...I'm really looking forward to the trebuchet equivalents...then bases won't be impossible to take out so much...also you will have to develop more strategies for the varity of games out there...all we have been able to use is the grab the monument games...they got old real quick especially becuase of ONE map!!!:(
But the full game shall bring peace and meaning to our lives and yet also bring choas and death:D

Personally, I hope this game MUST be played with a variety of units in order to win. To many Games only require one or two different units to swamp the other player.

Diversity is a good thing and makes for real Strategy in a game instead of a "tank" rush every time.

P.S. Conquest Frontier Wars is a great game that requires various units to really see success. I like that!

Your army has to be able to counter every kind of unit, otherwise you will be destroyed.

Oh that's rediculous. No player can immediatly make tons of the exact counter for your army. You do what damage you can and then reattack with something different.

Toothless, I do want variety and all, its just the way how un-unique most armies will be. Ill be using my planned attack of Naboo air, Jedi, hunters and Royal guard, to try and have some character. Ill also be whupped regularly, because I dont have all the perfect counters

I like to play more defensively by supporting my troops with twoers and anti air towers.
