Hmmm, I thought I replied to a post eerily similar to this one :p. Spaff, Snuckey's is busy working on a technical help section for the site, and we've already solved how to get Sam and Max to work in 95/98. I've also been able to get the sound (but not music for some reason) to work in WinME. Anyway, when the site's back you can have a look at what we've got.

On my WME, Sam and Mayx runs properly but DOTT has no sound at al!
And still we have got a Pentium II 166, a Pentium 100, and a plain old 286 computer. So diversity is no problem.

I don't know about ME, but I'll tell you what I do to get sound in Sam & Max in Win98SE with an SB Live card. Maybe it'll 'translate'.

The problem we have to get around is the fact that SETMUSE.EXE (the thing that sets up the sound) absolutely will not run in any form of Windows. So what I do is use a Windows startup floppy to boot to DOS. (I do it this way because I need access to the CD-ROM drive in DOS and I'm too lazy to fool with adding CD-ROM lines to autoexec.bat and config.sys just for one game.) Once in DOS, I go to the CD-ROM drive, go into the Samnmax directory, run SETMUSE.EXE, select the sound options I know will work, then reboot to Windows. And, lo, I now have sound in Sam & Max.

You could get the new free open source SCUMM implementation. It's called ScummVM and runs on several OS's, including Windows. Not all games are supported right now but you can play DOTT, MI1&2, Indy4 and a little bit of Sam & Max and Full Throttle on it. Check out the site here (http://www.sf.net/projects/scummvm).

The version I've got of Sam And Max (the newish Sam and Max/Dott cd, uk) doesn't seem to give you any control over setting sound (no setsound.exe etc). Sound doesn't work in windows 2000 (suprise suprise) and theres little I can do (luckily I have windows 98 too so it ain't a big problem)

Unfortunetly it cost $$$ like 150 us. But if it works, while it works. If any one knows what I am talking about e-mail me please. JackTheGaffer@hotmail.com
