I really wonder if JKII will be better than JK? I mean JK did make the game of the year status. What do you guys think? Yeah, let's leave the fact that the QuakeIII engine will be used. That does not create the game, if you know what I mean...

I think it has a good chance of topping JK. I won't have expectations that high though, in fear of being dissapointed.

Whatever happens, I'll always have great memories of Dark Forces and JK.

Judging by the new screen shots, I have to say that the cutscenes will look spectacular - even though they are ingame.

What other games have Raven made? I do have oodles of games myself, maybe I have one of theirs. Hmmmm.... I say it's tough to top Jedi Knight. :D

Even though Raven really creates great FPS this game won't be an FPS only but a third person slasher too.
While I have every confidence to them and have played many of their games (and found almost every one of them incredible) there was one particular game I played and actually didn't like and that was their only 3d PS, Heretic 2.
I don't know if the game did well when it was released and I might be a minority but I found it lacking in many ways...
I just hope they won't make JK2 like H2 allthough that's not very likely to happen. What could, actually happen is to repeat the same mistakes they did on H2, especially if the game seemed flawless at the time of its release...

Which is a big positive IMO.

What other games have Raven made?

Their most recent game is Voyager: Elite Force, which is really nice, although not nearly as good as I want JK2 to be.

I started playin Elite Force after I found out Raven was making JK2. It's gonna be good. At least it will bring JK back to the mainstream. It can only get better from there. I'm still hopin for a user friendly map maker for it. Somethin I can play around with for my own amusement. :p

Was it Elite Force the game that had architecture that looked almost 'organic'?

what makes and breaks an FPS game is the MP imo. So, as long as they have great levels that are a blast to play in...spaceport, cargo, and gantry from MotS are perfect examples. I dont want to play 2 game lvls and maybe 3 user levels for at least a year after release like in MotS

Good point. But honestly, a good story driven plot makes the sp side of the game, and good mp maps for the multiplayer side would make for a very good game to appeal everyone. I hope the guys @ Raven are reading this, and put some of those classic mp maps in this game. Personally, Cloud City, Cloud City Gantry, Tatooine Homestead, Canyon Oasis, Battlegroung Jedi, and Valley of the Jedi are all classics that should be implemented. But, we'll see....if not, we'll make them! LOL!

Elite Force only looked organic when it was intended. The last thing you need to worry about with game engines is look too organic... heh

Just FYI, here's complete list of Raven's games...as displayed on their site...

Black Crypt
ShadowCaster
CyClones
Heretic
Hexen
Hexen: Deathkings Of The Dark Citadel
Necrodome
MageSlayer
Take No Prisoners
Hexen II
Hexen II: Portals Of Praevus
Heretic II
Soldier Of Fortune
ST Voyager: Elite Force

Guess you can add..

Solder Of Fortune II
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

And after they've finished those two games, I personally hope they make...

Heretic III
Hexen III

;)

EDIT: Deleted the dupes. Sorry about that - had trouble re-accessing the forum when I posted this. ;)

It's as simple as: the 15 sec, handy-cam video was better than JK plus all the mods put together, not to mention the screenies.

But those things alone are already better, how can the game not be!? :D

Well, that's my opinion at least, whatever that counts for... ;)

Well in term of graphics it'll be more then better it's gonna superfly.

However i'm a little affraid that the game will eventually be a bit short.
Now according to many e3 previews/interviews Raven already said that it wouldnt be as big as JK, but....well how shall i put it....i personally didnt feel as if JK's levels were really that big.
Maybe it just seemed that way because of the somewhat simplistic textures and stuff.(at least thats what 1 would say nowadays)
I'm sure many dont agree with me i can understand that but still i worry that the game will be to short.
Lets just hope that MP will compensate for that.(should that be the case)

I'll say it again. I really want a user friendly map maker. If they get the multiplay right and they have a mainstream map maker available, the game will be playable for a long, long time.

One thing they also need to be sure of it including lots of taunts. Elite Force is limited to one taunt per character within multiplay. That gets old fast. JK had a pretty extensive taunt list and that's often overlooked. If there is a large selection of taunts that players can trigger and hear while all other players here them also, it adds a lot to multi play. I really hope they remember to include them.

Well, althgouh topping everyones original re-action and emotion they felt ,when playing JK ,will be a dificult task, believing that JK2 will not be the better of the 2 games is a harder notion to swollow. Nearly 7 years have past since development started on JK, which is about a century in technology years. Being in the business, and knowing a little bit about the enternal make-up of Raven,( I'm in Orange County, which is farily close to Raven, as I work for a develoment company) through its years of experiance and staff off "all game" developers, not to mention their track record with game development( SOF,EF,ETC)I would bet my left arm that this game is going to set the bar a little higher, as did JK. Although the initial reaction and overwealming exitement we endured when JK was relased, due to the fact it was the first of its kind, will never be matched, I can gurantee that there are going to be aspects of the JO that will far exeed our expecations and more.....JO will be the Action game of the year for 2002......

Agreed, JK will be a tough act to follow, and if I had to speculate, I'd venture that this may be why LucasArts has taken so long in stepping up to the plate to produce the sequel.

I mean, it would be like if David Copperfield were doing magic tricks on stage, wowing the crowd, and then you were supposed to go up and do some cheesy card tricks for people right after. You'd have to have something pretty impressive to be able to follow up that act. Since LucasArts has, at long last, commited to JKII, it's apparent that they think they're finally ready to hold their own against JK's magic, if not out-dazzle it altogether. I'd suspect it's the later ;)

Hey, Vagabond! Where have you been? Welcome, anyway...

I think the only reason we are seeing JKII in development now is...

1. Because they cancelled Obi-Wan for the PC, and needed to fill that void.
2. Because of the feedback from the survey they conducted.

I'm not sure they planned on doing JKII at this time - but they're doing it, so I'm happy. My only qualms are if they've allowed enough of a budget, and enough time for the development of the game.

What I find really promising is something that was said recently - maybe in the chat log. Anyway, they haven't ruled out doing another game in the series after this one. I just hope they do a sequel to Jedi Outcast sooner than this sequel has been - say, two years after this one comes out would be okay by me.

I'm hoping they are going to really take this genre a lot more seriously in the future, and get into a regular development cycle. Star Wars is one of the best possible settings for FPS games, and they have so many opportunities to excel, with so much scope for variation to keep the genre fresh and exciting.

I have no doubts that Jedi Outcast will be a very good game. I just hope the engine they are using can deliver the same sense of scale as that used for JK.

imo i belive this game will be better then the last one just based on the successes/failures that have happened since. i think both lucasarts & raven will captalize on improvements made since (gameplay, storyline, multipayer,
graphics etc...) the last game and employ them in this one.

im sure...

I think that's a little unfair to Lucasarts. After all, they did develop the original JK. It is unfortunate that many of those on that team left Lucasarts to do their own thing. It seems that Lucasarts decided not to replace their FPS specialists, which may or may not have been intentional. I would say it was probably not a smart move.

I do understand your concerns about Lucasarts in light of some of their games in recent years - some were certainly below par. And perhaps they have not always seemed very responsive to gamers needs. However, that has now clearly changed, and although they could quite easily have hired their own team to speciailise in the FPS genre once more, they decided instead to use a very experienced team in the form of Raven. I find that commendable. And I'd like to offer Lucasarts my thanks for really listening to the gaming community, and trying to fulfil our needs.
